I can't figure out how to use it. I read the little summary thing of it, and it said to use it via the pet's profile game. But I can't find out how to.

Go to your pet's profile, and in the information box, click the green "genetic philter" button. :)

one other thing. You do not have the option of using the pie until your pet is ready to be moved to the stable.
I found I could not use it until they were an adolescent.
