I am getting a lot of pets failing their missions. I don't know why?

At the top of the mission page where you get to choose a pet to send out, it will say Emphasized Statistic: and it will say Health, Strength, Agility, Dexterity, or Intelligence.
It is important to send out certain pets on those missions with the highest level of the stated statistic. This is why a bunch of player have Mission Pets, or pets with one or two boosted statistics.
For example, if someone has a pet with high Agility and they send it out on a mission that requires Agility, chances are it will succeed. But if an Agility pet is sent out on a mission that requires Strength, it will likely fail the mission.

I think equipment plays a bit of a role as well, if I remember correctly. The guide Hiraeth provided the link to goes into good detail about that.
