No matter how many times I hit the give gift button and then complete the person is still at my door and the present still in my inventory.

You can't click the gift button because the site admins haven't gotten the avatar items in the system yet. The gifts have a possibility of receiving an item. They will be down until Krin gets everything in the system. :)

Edit: if you give thanks to them, they'll leave your door at the moment
