High on the school room's wall, a clock ticked toward the five o'clock hour. Seven students sat scattered through the room, pens scratching across paper as pages rustled and someone flipped through music on their iPod. For one reason or another, all had been assigned the detention hour. However, something different tingled in their air, the sound of the clock far too loud in the near-empty school.

When that clock finally hit the hour, everything changed, and with it, every person in the room. They were thrust into a high stakes world of magic and monsters. In order to survive the fantastical, they must evolve themselves and learn to be...extraordinary!

The Characters:
Henri Willow (Murkysoulwaters)
Orson Hemsfield (Murkysoulwaters)
Elliot Marsh (Bluepearl13)
Axel Fletcher (Goldennautilus)
Zethrin Torrent Palentine (Pipps)
Judith Hill (Xedite)
Ethan Nanda (Kittyauthor)
Azrail Smith (Scoutwolf)

Henri sunk back in the hard plastic of their seat, eyes on the clock over the book open in their hands. Detention was a thing they had grown used to over the course of their high school career. Even their parents got tired of complaining, leaving Henri certain that this wasn't that big of a deal. Regardless, the clock inched its way toward the end of all their punishment, something that even the teacher watching them seemed grateful for.

With long greyish brown hair pulled into a single ponytail, Henry recognized him from the senior level classes, but it was the first time they had seen Professor Hemsfield in the detention room. Not that Henri had any good feelings for Mrs. Webster. Rolling their eyes to themself, Henri looked away from the clock for just one second.

In that time, Professor Hemsfield slapped his own book down on the table.

"Kids! Time to start wrapping it up. One minute left and you don't want to be late leaving this detention, you hear me?" he called out with a voice like a whip through the silence.

For a second, Henri just stared at him, feeling a shiver run along the spiny nobs of their back. Wasn't that a really strange thing to say? Still, they slid their book closed, ready to get the hell out of this retched building.

Judith sighed, already packing up her bag to leave.

She was frustrated that she missed cheer practice over this and this was so not the way she wanted to come out to her parents.

Well, whatever. At least she could dodge them today. She still had a work shift to get to and definitely wouldn't be caught dead lingering around this musty place another minute.

Ethan mumbled something under his breath, probably directed towards the teacher, before closing his textbook and putting it away in his bag. Like he'd want to be around here any longer than he needed to be. Besides, he had to tell the math coach why he couldn't be at the math team meeting. All the coach did was sigh.

It was kinda routine at this point, anyways.

Azrail glances up from their homework, quickly scribbling in the answer to the problem they had been working on. Azrail starts to put their books away, thinking this was normal. They haven't been in detention before. They weren't really paying attention to anyone else. They were eager to get out and be with friends again.

Elliot smiled. She quickly packed her items into her bag. She could not wait to get out of here. The silence was causing her stress. She hated silence. She tapped her toe and stared at the clock. The seconds ticked by. "Quickly, quickly." She mumbled.

Axel placed a bookmark into his own volume and snapped it shut with a resentful sigh. Darn. He thought. If he was going to sit in detention for a couple hours, it would've been nice to at least finish one more chapter in peace; The Art of War was a surprisingly good read. He slipped the book into his backpack, zipped it up, and hoisted it up onto the desk. He reached back to pull on his sweater from the back of his chair before sliding the bag onto his shoulders.

Zeth had been doodling a bit of the time, the other moments she spent proudly twisting her fingers through her hair. She couldn't have been happier with the result of her hair color, even if it costed her detention. Detention wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be from her perspective. It was a nice quiet time during which no one dared to bother her. Once she heard the teacher's announcement, she crumbled her doodles threw them into the nearest trash bin.

Book still in hand, Henri stood up just as the clock struck the hour. The sound echoed like a gong through the room, leaving Henri spinning, staring at the device in abject horror. "What was-?" They didn't finish the statement though because the words seemed to ring in the room. They realized that no sound could be heard. Not the sound of feet on the linolium floors or desk chairs being pushed back. Even a quick glance to the window showed something...strange.

Although the trees and the parking lot could be seen, they seemed to lie far, far away, through a mist. The sight left Henri stumbling toward the nearest desk, feeling a sudden urge to throw up. "Help! I think I've been drugged!" Either that or planet Earth was about to get very far away.

Judi blinked, dropping her hand from the door handle.

She felt the same. Her head was spinning suddenly and she had to clutch onto a wall to keep herself from feeling like she was about to topple over.
