Meet Coronavirus

Meet Coronavirus. He is a very tall, young lad who wants nothing more than to be a math teacher. He isn't very old, still in high school in fact, but he loves math and wants to teach high school students one day.

He was a very lonely kid. He had no friends, and it was like he didn't exist unless he was getting bullied by the popular kids, often being called a nerd or the teacher's pet. He was often the butt of many cruel jokes.

One day, he and his small family consisting of his mother, little brother and himself moved away to China for his mother's work. He struggled in school due to not being able to speak the language and because nobody seemed to like him. Sometimes the other students thought he was evil because of how forced his smiles were and because his name sounded dark.

One day, when Coronavirus was driving his little brother Covid to school in his mom's car, he got into an accident. Someone had jumped in front of the car from a hidden alleyway and gotten hit hard. The person died soon thereafter. The car had taken major damage when Coronavirus tried swerving out of the way and into the path of an oncoming vehicle. It was rather miraculous that he and his little brother hadn't gotten hurt very badly.

Suddenly, everyone at school was talking about Coronavirus. He didn't know how to feel. He hadn't meant to kill anybody! He was just grateful that Covid had survived the accident. But everyone now was afraid of Coronavirus-- worried that he really was evil and intended to hurt them.

News of Coronavirus spread some ways, both through people talking about his incident and news reports. He wanted people to stop mentioning it. He hated the looks that were shot at him through suspicious eyes. He simply couldn't wait for the summer break, when he would graduate and wouldn't ever have to show his face again.

Despite all this, Coronavirus was still ambitious about becoming a math teacher and one day hoped that his students would look up at him with not fear or uncertainty, but with inspired and welcoming eyes.
