Update Pinglist(If you want to be added, ping me!)Later Note: Due to IRL problems, I am not, and cannot, currently update. However there are a few others here who may do occasional ones: Goldennautilus, Larkien, Sl33pl3ssnights, Articu, CeruleanCrow, Moonia, Duckbunny427, Lostbunny, Aura, Beaubuddyz, Lucario, Alison280, Wildcat2057, Wyvern676, Opalfirelight, Carrotbae, Penami

So, hi, this is my take on the Coronavirus and my advice to you. (With adequate research of course.)

Here is a personal list I've made while combing through medical articles, news interviews with medical professionals, and medical professionals personal videos on Coronavirus. This list is kind of a reminder to myself on how not to catch this. Because even if you only get a mild case and successfully treat it at home-- you can still spread it to others, and they might not be as healthy as you are.

Take all of these with a grain of salt, I understand that some of these are nearly impossible for people because of work etc.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

Things to prevent catching it:
*Don't eat food from public places (samples, leftovers, restaurants, fast food). Disinfect any fresh produce you bring into your home before cooking (I like to put it in the sink and give it a bath in lightly bleached water). The people preparing your food might be infected.
*Avoid touching people or standing close to them. Don't touch your face, mouth, and nose. So try not hug, give handshakes, or stand right next to someone.
*Frequently wash your hands and keep good hygiene (showering/bathing etc). Soap does work, so will hand sanitizer . If you've been out all day interacting with people I'd recommend showering and discarding your clothes as soon as you get home. Just imagine your covered in barely-hanging on sand. Its going to get everywhere if you don't get rid of it.
* Stay away from/do not attend large gatherings (concerts, parties, rallies).
*Avoid public health clinics and hospitals. If you do have symptoms, but they're mild, treat it at home and just try not to spread it to others. If you have trouble breathing or are vomiting then you might want to go to the hospital. But otherwise you might just be putting more strain on the healthcare system.
*Stay away from airports and don't travel abroad. Also avoid public transportation if possible.
*Avoid going to other peoples houses for an extended period of time, and in turn letting them into yours. Your house is your safe haven for now.
*Be very careful in public bathrooms. I think most people know how nasty they can be... so I'll save the explanation. Bring a tissue with you to open the door after you wash your hands.
*If your handling money on a regular basis I'd recommend a pair of gloves. Blue Nitrile ones will do, they're disposable and you can buy them in packs.
* Disinfect the doorknobs, light switches, and anything you touch frequently at your home and work.

And things to keep in mind:
Asymptomatic carriers= An asymptomatic carrier (healthy carrier or just carrier) is a person or other organism that has become infected with a pathogen, but that displays no signs or symptoms. Although unaffected by the pathogen, carriers can transmit it to others or develop symptoms in later stages of the disease.Source:Wikipedia So someone who has Coronavirus and can spread it... but doesn't show any symptoms.
Masks= Regular surgical mask will not prevent you from getting Covid-19 (although it may help you just a little bit, any tight weave cloth will filter the air to *some* extent. But it won't filter the majority of particulate) they don't filter the large particulate out of the air but can stop you from touching your face (If you want air filtration you need a fitted N95 mask). However if you're already sick wearing a surgical mask can prevent you from spreading it by catching the cough and sneeze droplets.
Worse than the flu.
14 day minimum incubation= It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to show once you've been infected.
Seniors and people with pre-existing conditions are more at risk.
The Coronavirus can last up to 2 days on certain surfaces. So for example, when someone hands you a pen, or a phone. It can have Coronavirus on it.
You can't have cases if you don't test. (This is specifically for the United States) A medical professional has recently confirmed that they could barely get their hands on testing kits. This ultimately means that there are many people walking around with the Coronavirus right now. Obviously you can't have confirmed cases if you can't test. So those low numbers you've been hearing in the news? Double those. Maybe even triple. The United States hadn't been screening people coming from Italy for example, the Coronavirus is in the US, and its much worse than you might think.
Bleach can kill it on surfaces, and alcohol-based rubs at 70% alcohol.
Take off your jewelry and wash them too.

My scattered notes-

Coronavirus deaths have surpassed the 2003 SARS Pandemic.

It might be an airborne spreader (not confirmed).

Much of the Iranian parliament has tested positive for it.

Has spread to all of these countries

No, you can't get it from chinese food (I...don't know who asked that).

Outbreaks in Italy, South Korea, China, Germany, Spain, and Iran.

World leaders and political figures are starting to adopt the elbow bump.

Discrimination against Asian people in other countries. (Please don't be racist guys...)

Dogs/pets can't get it (as far as we know).

The Philippines as made a No-Touch policy for Churches.

The Pope....*might* have had it.

And if your looking for a bit of humor, and don't mind a bit of cursing, John Oliver

I'm sure I could probably go on for days about this, but to conclude:

Coronavirus is very serious. It kills people, and we can all do our part to help prevent the spread.

[Final Disclaimers: I am not a medical professional, nor do I claim to be one. I have done my own research and this is the outcome, whether or not you heed my advice is your own decision and I will respect whatever it is-- if only you respect my own.]

I agree with you. I feel like people are not taking the Corona virus seriously.

My first point is that it is a meme so people are not taking it seriously.

I'll add more later.

I'm no medical expert, but I hope you don't mind if I leave a few statisitcs and thoughts here?

Coronavirus:
New? Yes.
Cure? Not yet.
Deaths? Several.
Reason to loose our minds? I think not.

----------------
Note: For the sake of this, I'm counting deaths, not cases (except the confirmed cases in China). Deaths are much easier to confirm and find statistics on than cases.

*Accoring to Health Magazine, there have been at least 12,000 deaths caused by the flu this flu season in the US alone.

*In contrast, (at the time of me typing this) Worldometers.info is reporting just under 3,500 deaths caused by Covid-19 globally.

*As Sleepless said, you can't have cases without testing. The reason Coronavirus's ratio of cases-to-deaths (otherwise known as 'death rate') seems higher than the flu's right now is because Covid-19 currently has fewer confirmed cases than the flu; As we discover more cases, that ratio will most likely drop. And as I said; deaths are easier to confirm than cases, and we'll usually hear about those first.

While I'm talking about this, death rate is not the same thing as mortality rate. if you get infected with Covid-19, that does not mean you have a 3.4% chance of dying.

*In the US, there have only been 17 deaths thus far according to ABC News. At least 12 of them are linked to residents and workers of the same nursing home in Washington.

*Statnews.com notices:
"Overall, China CDC found, 2.3% of confirmed cases died. But the fatality rate was 14.8% in people 80 or older, likely reflecting the presence of other diseases, a weaker immune system, or simply worse overall health. By contrast, the fatality rate was 1.3% in 50-somethings, 0.4% in 40-somethings, and 0.2% in people 10 to 39.

The age-related death risk probably reflects the strength, or weakness, of the respiratory system."...

"Youth, in contrast, seems to be protective."

In short, it's mostly the elderly that seem to be effected by Covid-19; older people get sick easier, it's harder for them to pull through, and some don't make it. That's typical of almost every sickness out there and not unique to Covid-19. Compare with the flu, a virus which is notorious for causing deaths in both the elderly and young children.

*While we may not have a vaccine for Coronavirus yet (because, yes, it is new), it's not like we have to make one from scratch. Statnews.com states that researhers have found that Coronavirus shares around 89% of it's DNA with a form of SARS, a disease we already have a vaccine for.
----------------

*Phew*

All that to say, while I strongly believe turning something like this into a laughing matter is definately not okay, Covid-19/Coronavirus isn't as huge of a deal as the news hounds make it out to be. It's scary because it's new, and let's face it, the flu was once new as well.

Please understand, I'm not saying you shouldn't take precautionary measures; That point I agree with entirely! Cover your mouth when you sneeze, definately be extra vigilant to wash your hands, keep your hands away from your mouth, maybe carry around a pack of wipes and handsanitizer, wear a facemask if you feel the need to, all that good stuff. Those are some of the best ways to prevent not only Coronavirus, but most other sicknesses!

(Quick tip to Sleepless, though? Maybe don't use Wikipedia itself as a source in the future; use the links and references at the bottom of the page instead. I've often found Wiki's to be... inconsistant, seeing as people can go in and change things.)

----------------
You know? I'm going to make this into a project of sorts. I'm going to keep track of Corona's global death rate as new cases are discovered and confirmed. I'll leave them right here for anybody who's interested. I'm getting the numbers from Worldometers.info and run the calculations for the percentage myself, rounding to the nearest hundreths place. I'll leave some thoughts as I'm doing this as well.

Notes:
For comparison, I'll use CDC flu estimates from the 2018-2019 flu season. 34,000,000-49,000,000 cases, 20,000-52,000 deaths. The flu's death rate during that season: 0.04-0.15%.

Times are in Sylestia time.

Additionally, it was brought to my attention that China may be lying about their number of cases. Therefore, these numbers, while not perfect, are probably the most accurate and up-to-date I have access to.

I do appreciate your own thoughts and opinions, and your free to leave them (I especially appreciate your support on the precautionary measures). Maybe I *am* just a little too frazzled about this, but I've seen the way some people treat this and it scares me.

Some guy in the 7-Eleven the other day said that he heard it was "less worse than the flu" and *statistically* thats *completely* inaccurate, we went to a clinic too and the healthcare worker said *mockingly* "What are we supposed to do? Wash our hands a 100 times a day?".

Its scary.

My own mother came home today (she works at a health clinic) coughing and sneezing and got *defensive* when I asked her to take a shower (she'd been coughing into her shirt) and wash her hands. Then I started disinfecting stuff she'd touched already (because she *didn't* go take a shower-- instead madly stomping around the house) and she said "well just follow me around and open the doors for me". She said "I'm going to get sick, what about it? Who cares?".

Well I care. Because even if you don't die, you definitely stand the chance of infecting others...who infect *more people* which means *more people die*.

There are a huge chunk of people who are completely *misinformed* and complacent with the situation. And in my personal opinion, I'd rather have an informed-- paranoid population over a naive--stupid population.

(btw ill be updating my post as some things have changed xD)

Where'd you hear that?

No. It may cause pneumonia and difficulty breathing, though.

I have to say, I'm really glad you actually did your research before posting this. There are a lot of people out there that just throw rumors around on a whim without any verification, and just believe whatever they hear. But you have solid evidence to support your claims, which is awesome. I even learned a few new things. So yeah, keep that up! We need more people like you informing the common folk.

But yeah. Until this blows over, definately stay vigilant about hygiene. Since I stopped trusting flu vaccines due to an unfortunate circumstance, I've just washed my hands more and haven't gotten the flu since. It really does help.

One more thing, though. If you find this thing going around happens to stressing you out excessively, try to find ways to alleviate that stress. There are tons of studies out there that point to stress weakening the immune system. I've personally found a nice balance between awareness and calm during this situation; As long as I take care of myself, I will be okay, and so will you.

Thanks ^-^'' I try to do my part. Its less about stress really than it is me marveling at human stupidity. We do alot of cool things, sure, but we also seem to do alot of incredibly stupid things too xD I suppose I can't be too harsh on people though...even if sometimes it just seems like some are living in their own bubble >.>'' (and I mean human stupidity in general, not just relating to the coronavirus). (And nobody can be
perfect obviously, neither am I and I definitely have my flaws--but I try to improve myself anyway I can) I have heard about those studies though, and I usually consider myself a pretty chill person who knows how to relax-- so that doesn't bother me much (even though I have something due in 2 days >.>'' oops).

I just want to help prevent more people from getting sick-- it'll help all of us ^-^

Speaking of research, I have a video from a doctor that actually explains how this Coronavirus infects you, ill fetch the link in a few minutes if your interested.
