Warning: Possible Spoilers ahead. I'll try not to give away too much, though. Nothing Important story-wise.

Remember that trailer for the live action Sonic movie that made the internet collectively cringe?
Remember when they fixed said trailer so Sonic didn't look like a bad cosplay?

Well, I saw the movie last night, and it was actually surprisingly good!

I got a serious Detective Pikachu vibe from the whole thing; Absolutely halarious, but takes itself seriously enough that you aren't so lost in the humor that you forget the plot.

Sonic's and impuslive little good boy who won't shut up and I love it. Also, Jim Carrey's acting! I needn't say more!

The movie's pretty attuned to today's culture. Nice music choices throughout, and a couple scattered memes and refernces to other movies and actors here and there.

Sonic does the floss a couple during the film. It's cursed but kinda cute at the same time. Speaking of cursed memes, there's a drawing of Sanic too.

Warp Rings from the Archie Comics are utilized, which I thought was a nice touch.

And speaking of Archie Comics, looks like the Echidnas aren't functionally extinct in this universe. They serve a part in the expositional scene that explains what Sonic's doing amoung humans, and let's just say I had forgotten that Knuckles came from a tribe of megalomaniacs. And no, Knuckles himself isn't in the movie.

Speaking of exposition, the just had to pull a Bambi's mom.

Some of my favorite lines:
"Hello, welcome to my livestream. Today we're destroyin' robots. Step one: *incoprehensible noise*"
"You're messing with a poorly-disquised hedgehog who's seen too many action films!"
"I'm the Donut Lord, you son of a--"
"Do I look like an idiot? Of course I (want a latte). I LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE THEM!"
"Time to abuse the power entrusted to me."

Watch the credits. I won't spoil it, but just trust me, you don't wanna miss what happens during the credits. You'll know when you see him.

Also, the thing in the credits seems to imply a sequel.

Yeah I agree the movie was really enjoyable! I was surprised lots of people showed up to see it until I saw the entire movie. The crowd went crazy once the post credits scene came on!

I personally loved Jim Carrey in the film, but I'v heard people who play the games don't like him cuz the part isn't as serious as Robotnik is in the games ;-; but I'm also just a fan of Carrey's work, so that could be swaying my opinion a little
Sonic himself was just a likable and relatable character
And I seriously didn't realize the town he lived in was green hill until THE CREDIT SEQUENCE //-///-// it was embarrassing XD
and the teaser at the end got me really excited for a sequel xwx

I keep hearing that, but Robotnik isn't very serious in the source material to begin with? And honestly, the overblown huberis fits the movie well. Otherwise, I think he'd probably come off as excessively edgy in comparison to Sonic... :/ I think Carrey played the role well, though I can see why some might disagree.

Sonic was a good boy. Nothing more needs to be said.
Though I will say I think they added in that line where he called himself handsome sometime after the redesign XD

Heh. As soon as dialogue was thrown into the Sonic games, the friendship message became mandatory. Exhibit A: All of Sonic Heroes.

After the next movie, Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I eagerly await both.

Well, hopefully all lessons were learned after the first live action Mario movie...

To me the live action Mario film may not be perfect, but it is still somewhat enjoyable to watch. I especially love the credits music ;-;
