I'm sorry, but how exactly do you know which items in your wardrobe you can use? Is it the ones with a gold box around them?

The items that you have unlocked are the ones with white backgrounds(green background if you're already wearing it). If the box is blue inside, you haven't unlocked that item and can't use it yet.
The colored frame around the items corresponds to that item's rarity.
