I'm getting Pokemon shield for christmas, and I was wondering if I could get any tips from people who play.
here are some things I've been wondering:
Which starter should I choose?

What are some Pokemon I should catch when starting out?

Are there any items you can get from talking to npcs?If so, where are they, and what do they do?

Merry Christmas, by the way! ^-^

i personally love sobble, so i always pick the little timid cutie <3 i'll list out my team for you :)

my suggested moveset for its final evolution is u-turn (bug), snipe shot (water), hydro pump (water), and sucker punch (dark).

corviknight (it's the final evolution of rookidee) is also a pokemon i'd recommend. my preferred moveset for my own corviknight is steel wing (steel), drill peck (flying), body press (fighting; TR from max raid battles), and hone claws (dark).

toxtricity is also a nice one to take along with you. just so you know, there is no statistical difference between its two forms. my moveset for toxtricity is poison jab (poison), overdrive (electric), spark (electric), and venoshock (poison).

galarian rapidash can be pretty useful, too. my moveset is stomp (normal), dazzling gleam (fairy), psycho cut (psychic), and smart strike (steel).

dragapult is another worthy team member. on dragapult, i usually run dragon darts (dragon), phantom force (ghost), fire blast (fire; TR from max raid battles), and solar beam (grass, TM move).

the last team member can really be whatever you'd like. i save my final spot for glaceon, but that's just because of ice-type support. on glaceon, i use freeze-dry (ice), shadow ball (ghost), work up (normal; TR from max raid battles), and stored power (psychic; TR from max raid battles).

pick whatever starter suits your fancy. if you have any really specific questions, feel free to ask me! i'll answer the best i can. also, i suggest talking to every npc you see. some give advice, some give items, and.... most are just kind of there. but still, you never know. just talk to everyone you find :)

When doing Raid Battles, work with your teammates. Also, research the best battle strategy and nature before using a mint on them. For instance, if you had a Jolly Gardevoir, it'd be smart to use a Modest or Timid mint.
