there are two white spaces in my inventory where nothing is. They can trade places with other items or be placed on another free slot, but I can't collapse stacks on these spots. At the beginning it was just one, now there are two.

You can click the Trash Can icon and it will remove them.
The Inventory system is pretty clunky and sometimes, when items get used, they aren't properly removed from the actual Inventory itself and get stuck like that. The Trash Can icon is specifically there to remove said items lol.
