Vellio the Book Hoarder

Vellio pushes his newest book through the rectangular hole at the entrance to his den. It was hard work waterproofing his den, but as he started evolving, he began producing a water insulated oil that kept his cave nice and dry. He squeezed through his den, latching into the book carefully with the hooks at the base of his wings that he had evolved to be able to carry books while flying.

His most recent book he picked out from one of those free book boxes in a faraway town, a murder mystery that was written by an author he was unfamiliar with. Now that he safely added the book to his collection, he had another piece of business to attend to- Diamohs geology textbook

Diamohs was a fellow hoarder dragon living a few miles away, she boarded minerals. It was a dangerous hoard to have, minerals were valuable to humans, so if one discovered her lair, they wouldnt hesitate to kill her, but who was he to judge another dragons hoard based on value alone, what mattered to Vellio is that she had acquired a book that he wanted.

Vellio flew until he reached the coast, seeing a small tourist town. It wouldnt be easy, but he wa sure that a giftshop had to have a pretty stone that would catch Diamohs attention so she would trade the book to him for her rocks. Her textbook was limited edition- no longer in print, which made it all the more valuable to Vellio, of course she wouldnt know that though.

He found a small giftshop, peering through the windows. It was before opening time, so he needed to find a way to sneak in, but luckily that also meant there were no humans inside.

*Hoarder? What are you doing in my town?* An unfamiliar voice chirped behind him. He whipped around to see a hoarder with a very dark greenish blue back with a white pattern on top and a lighter underbelly staring intently at him. Her find and gills made it quite obvious that she was some sort of ocean hoarder.

*Sorry, didnt mean to disturb you, Im just looking to get those stones... also, what makes this town yours? How old are you?* he asked her. Most hoarder dragons wouldnt approach him unprovoked like this, it was odd that she was confronting him, he figured she must be young and inexperienced.

*12!* she announced proudly *My name is Thalian, and this is my town because Im the only hoarder here!* she explained confidently.

*Well Im 137* Vellio said calmly *So I suggest you calm down, this attitude of yours is going to get you into a lot of trouble very quickly* Vellio warned her, amused with the young hoarders antics
