I don't make eye contact but survey the massive Lighira. I search the walls for places to hide and escape routes.
I begin to talk, even though I don't think it understands what I'm saying. The gentle, calming tone is what's important. I hold out the capture capsule, ready to spring it.
"Hey there, big guy. I'm not dangerous. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to take a step toward you, okay? See, small step. I'm a human, not prey."
I continue on in this fashion, stopping about seven feet away from the Lighira. So far it hasn't attacked, but I don't want to test my luck.

As quietly as I can, I creep up to the closest area where the lily pad is, so I won't scare whatever's there

Just a small announcement, i'm going away tomorrow morning to a hotel with my mom, her friend and my friend. They surprised me of having a small roadtrip and going to a hotel and staying there for the night as an early bday gift, so I won't have access to my computer. Sorry but I won't be able to reply till sunday night or even monday!
