An uneasy feeling falls over you as you enter the hallway. The lighting was a little brighter here, and you could see three possible pathways now, four, if you included the exit behind you. The three new hallways all look the same, however, the one straight ahead has a slightly closed door, implying its jammed, or was forced open. The other two pathways on your left and right seem to have fully functioning doors, and you hear footsteps on your right, but you cant tell if theyre human or not

I quickly go to the left and rush into a cell, trying to be silent and hide. I hold my breath for a few seconds, then try to breathe silently

(Theres no cells on the left, its just a hallway)

You hear the footsteps still, but it quickly fades into silence as the steps got more and more distant. After a few more brief seconds of silence, then a man scream which was quickly cut off due to unknown causes. You look at the walls of the corridor, and see three, very deep scratch marks in the wall that go for about 5 feet long down the 50 foot hall, and each scratch was about an inch tall. however, the lack of blood in the hallway implies the scratches were just for show, or that whatever caused them was too slow to catch anyone. Or, a third, more terrifying possibility: whatever made those marks cleaned up the scene.

(Sorry, my bad)

I decide to think more pessimistically, telling myself that the monster was somewhere here, and that I was just delaying the inevitable. I also decide to go check out the cell with the wrenched open door.
