Hello, I was wondering about the genetics from breeding two Sylestis and how their genes are carried to the offspring. So if you go to the advanced search engine looking for Sylestis and select "Genetics" as the viewing option with any gene match up, you will get green, blue, and purple colored gene codes in the description. Green means it's carried, blue means it's visible on the Sylesti, and purple means they were genetically modified, right?
Well, my two Sylvorpa both have blue and visible Gene 2 (GG) Spark Stripes and I thought they would have offspring with Gene 2 (GG) Spark Stripes. I've bred them twice now and both times they had offspring with Gene 2 (II) Achilles Tang. Does the (GG) and the (II) represent the likelihood of getting the particular gene or is that just the number for when the devs implemented the gene in the game? Is it random or is there another factor I'm not getting?
I've always taken the offspring as they come and didn't mind their genes, but when I specifically went for this particular gene, I realized I didn't know much at all. I just wanted clarification. Thanks for your time!

Purple = a visible with a second, hidden, less-dominant trait under it.
You can only see if a pet has Purple (hiddens) and Green (carries) if they've been gene tested, but they can still pass the genetics down to offspring. (Untested pets only show the Visible (blue) traits)
So one parent will have the genes GI if tested, and the other will either have GI or G[letter further back in the alphabet than I]
We go over them here, here and here in a guide we have (posts 2, 4 and 10- the guide is Kind of a Mess and I really need to finish all the posts I want and organise it into being sensible, but for now we'll just link all the posts instead (the trait inheritance section is after the stat inheritance section in the third link))
Also here is my handy-dandy terrible Dominance chart:
Sylesti trait dominance is easy to understand- excluding N (Nothing), which is most dominant, Traits are more dominant the closer to the start of the alphabet they are (so the higher on the trait dropdown list in the generator, the more dominant.)
The rest is just Punnett Square genetics

The closer the gene lettering is to the start of the alphabet, the more dominant the gene. Got it.
Purple genes have a hidden recessive gene on the same gene that's purple. Got it.
I finally used my starter genetic test kit on one of my Sylvorpa, and the Gene 2 (GG) went from blue to purple, which shows she actually is (GI). So for my offspring to actually get an Gene 2 (II) Tang gene, the father must also be purple on Gene 2 with a (GI) or (G+lower-than-I) hidden gene (can't test it out, is too expensive right now).
So Father has (GI) and Mother has (GI). 25% for a (GG) and get the gene I want. 50% for a (GI) and get the gene I want because the gene I want is G, which is closer to the start of the alphabet than I. 25% for a (II) and not get the gene I want. Two offspring with (II). Two strikes. I'm just super unlucky, aren't I? (T~T)

Breeding for traits can be an exercise in agony sometimes- RNG might give you what you want immediately, oooor you could end up twenty+ babies later questioning which god has it in for you.
But yeah, looks like you have the genetics down- also, there are people in the forums who offer genetics testing services.
(In example, I'm breeding 5v nytes at the moment to progress on our journey towards 6v. I have two pairs of 3v2c that I want to have two 5vs each out of...
One pair, in the first three rounds of babies, gave us a 4v and two 5vs, so they're all good... the OTHER pair is on its tenth egg right now with zero successes)
