Adding you now and yeah I love the series im on book 6 havnt read much of it yet. I do say the need to remake the movie based off of it the Vampire's Assistant =l was poor compared to the book though most movies are.

Darren Shan is one of may fav authors. I got into the series, but fell out with it when I found his Demonata series. I have finished that one but still LOVE it. Have all the books, I even got my friend into 'The saga of Darren Shan'. If I can remember back I believe I got to book 8-9?
And you are right about the movie.
