where can I find some food and how does the egg hatching work in this game? I am new to this game just started today.....

you don't need to find food- you just use the "feed pets" option

As for the egg hatching it takes roughly 72 hours. There are ways to speed this up by nurturing 5 clicks equals one hour. Also you may find eggs that have been slightly hatched in the wild in these cases the 72 bar will be filled such as 24/72. When the time dose finish you will see a symbol close to the pet (sorry can't show what it looks like none of my eggies are hatching) when you click on the egg it will give three chooses to help the egg hatch(health boost) let it hatch (random boost) or use philter (give boost based on philter used for example lessor philter of strength gives +5 strength these items need to be bought and are one use) also if you ignore the egg it will hatch with no bonus (this only happened once and not sure how long you need to ignore it for)
