Chapter 1
"Love is pointless in the long run." Faiyors voice was quiet, bitterness biting his words. "Tell me, sister, will you remember the colour of her eyes in the next four hundred years?"
Moria looked away, face unreadable. It always was; the black mask was never removed.
"They are nothing but mortals. They will die. Im sure you can visit your pet when she enters the afterlife." With that, Faiyor took to the sky and left.
She had expected to feel anger.
Instead, Moria merely felt pity. She knew Faiyor spoke from experience. It had been over thirty thousand years ago, but anyone could tell the death of that female Aurleon still haunted him. The mourning god had come to her, begging to see his lover one last time. But that wasnt how the Afterlife worked.
To visit the Afterlife, you must be dead. As the goddess of death, Moria was the only one who could visit and stay alive. These two points are pretty obvious.
The souls there were sorted through the Orb Of Judgement; a powerful relic that can tell whether you deserved Peace, or to be left in Oblivion. As soon as the soul passes through, no matter if you go to Peace or Oblivion, your memories are wiped. It makes it easier when you finally return to the mortal world.
Moria may be the goddess of death, but she held no power of giving their memories back. The Orb held them, sealed inside with magic that equaled Tyria. Which made sense, since the Orb was created by the goddess of the Universe.
"Creator?"
Moria turned to her eldest child, Chaos. "I didn't hear you enter, my child. What is it?"
Chaos hesitated, finally asking, "why don't you make her a goddess, like you? Surely you-"
She shook her head. "That is for Tyria to decide, my dear. Even if I did, she would not approve. Everything happens for a reason."
"I don't want to see you upset, creator." The expression Chaos wore pulled at her heart. "Is there not another way?"
"There is, but I would never resort to it. No matter how anguished I feel."
"What is it?"
Moria paused, looking down. That book... The memories of what it had done to the mortal world... "It has many names, though we call it Mille Anima. Thousand Soul. It is a book, holding only one spell- a spell that could destroy the world."

"Ukraine, do you know where our brother is?"
Ukraine rolled his eyes, looking down at the Lighira from where he was perched on a tree. This question wasnt new- at this point, their brother disappearing for a few days was normal. "If you wish to find him, go to Liafor. She has the ability to find anyone."
"You know we don't get along." Kyrem padded over to the lake, stretching across one of the large rocks.
"To be honest, does anyone get along with you, goddess of affairs and lies?" Ukraine drawled, watching the other in amusement.
"You do."
His wings twitched. "That's because you give me no choice. You always come into my domain without asking."
"Were getting off topic, brother. Do you know where he is?"
"No. Would you like me to ask Liafor for you, sister?"
Kyrem nodded. "That would be appreciated, thank you." She got up, walking towards a red pentagram. "You know where to find me."
"Wait."
Kyrem stopped, looking to the Vulnyx. "Yes?"
"Conquest visited me, about a vision she had. It involved him." Ukraine paused, thinking over his next words carefully. "And the mortal world. One mortal in particular."
"He isn't a god to fall in love, Ukraine. And last I checked, he hates mortals. He was the one to suggest we kill them all if the world turns bad."
"Conquest would never lie about her visions, sister. The Guardian had the same vision. And there's more to the vision. They spoke of all of us."
This shocked Kyrem, tail stilling. She was quick to recover, sneering at Ukraine. "And what did they see? Flames and death?"
Ukraine kept quiet, the slump of his wings and guilty eyes answer enough.
"Who starts it?"
"They don't know. Whoever it was... They were hidden. Even from Liafor." |
