I used both a dye and a genetic philter on my sylesti and neither of them did anything. Above the stats it shows small icons of both philters. Does it take time for them to work or was it a glitch?

Looking at your pets, I'm going to assume it's this guy who is the topic of discussion.

He isn't Genetically Tested, so the Genetic Mutator gave him a Carried trait- you'll see it if he gets Tested.

As for the colour, I don't know what colour slot it was that you changed, or what you were trying to change it to.
However, whatever it was, the colour did change- there's no delay, you click to use a dye, you scroll to the dye on the dropdown, you enter the colour HEX you want, you select the colour slot, you hit 'use philter', and it's done-, but if you used a Lesser dye, there can be quite the colour swing sometimes between what you were after and what it actually results in.

For philters, the results are immediate. I'm assuming you used the lesser versions for both?

For lesser dyes, there is an element called colour swing involved, so usually the resulting colour is not the exact colour you pick, but a close variant. Occasionally, and especially so for extremely dark or light colours, the colour may turn out pretty badly.

To get accurate colours, it's best to use the greater dyes. Else, you'll just have to use the lesser a couple times till you're okay with the colour.

For lesser mutators, they can give either a visible or carried trait randomly. So chances are, your pet got a carried trait, which is only visible on the profile if they have been genetically tested. (If you need, there are players who offer free testing services in the groups/services forum)

for a guaranteed visible trait of your choice, you'll have to use greater mutators.
