Greetings. As the title states, I was away from the game for quite a while. I left due to a dislike for several game mechanics, a dislike from lack of understanding at the time. I left around the beginning of the art updates for the original species and checked back now and then to poke around the site, but I was otherwise entirely inactive.

Now I'm back and interested in starting back up, but I'm actually not entirely sure how to play the game... Usually, I would just search the forums or ask my sister, but there appears to be no Forum Search option and my sister doesn't try to understand the game mechanics... She just plays to play. I will try to break this up into categories for easier reading, as I have a tendency to write a lot.

Before You Read: Please note that yes, I know you can peek into the Guides section and see, like, 20 guides on some of the things I'm asking, but I want what is most commonly used/recognized as 'the best.' I also don't want to search through those 20 guides only to find none of them have the one answer I needed.

Pets

Is breeding and selling pets a reliable source of income or not worth the effort? Is it only worth it if you have the 'latest and greatest' thing?

Does level increase a pet's value?

If I release a pet, is that equivalent to deleting it or can another user find it in the wild and capture it?

I wish to get rid of the majority of the pets I have - would it be better to release them or attempt to sell them?

Battling

I saw that natural recovery is now a thing - yay! Does a pet's level and HP determine the time it takes to recover or is it a set length regardless?

I know I have some high level teams around here somewhere, but they have been statted in a very ancient fashion and likely need to be updated. Is there a guide to proper statting for specific roles in your battle party, preferably one that is level-by-level or milestone-by-milestone like the ever so popular Culex leveling guide on Flight Rising?

Is there a guide to the best equipment to strive for when your pets reach max level?

Do pet species still have an influence over a pet's natural ability to be a specific role in a battle party, or can they be tinctured to base stats and be fully customized to what you need?

Is there a recommended level strategy?

Currency

Since I was gone for so long, I got a free revive for all my pets, but also had to feed them all. It seemed to cost less to feed them than I remember - was the amount changed, or am I simply remembering incorrectly?

What is the best way to gather coins?

Is trading coins for diamonds a reasonable strategy to obtain them? I have very little to occasionally spend on sites, so I would really like to avoid having to purchase them should I find I have need of them.

Are the site wide battle events still a thing? I remember that when I was here before, at least four times per day there were battle events in which the goal was to defeat the most monsters. I was pretty good at it, even scoring at the top of the leaderboard often. At the end, I would get a satchel that contained gold and items. It was how I got most of my coins.

Is there anything I can do to immediately improve my game experience with my current currency?

Projects

Among my other games is one by the name of 'Ovipets.' One of the main forms of gameplay there is the creation of projects, which are simply pets made from generated starters and bred to look a specific way. I know that I can do this here on Sylestia as well, but I'm not entirely sure how to do it. Is there a recommended way? This is what I am currently planning on doing.

This is entirely for personal want, but I wouldn't be opposed to selling offspring if other people were to like them when I eventually get around to completing them. Are people interested in purchasing such specifically made pets?

Site Events

I know the pets don't, but do event-specific genes return the following year with their event? Or are they permanently retired after their first event?

Has there been some gameplay improvement when it comes to the event zones? I feel like when I was here previously that getting themed pets was, to me, a waste of time and currency - buying nets and other things to try and get one, only to have them all fail, run out of time, or have the pet I caught be nothing near what I was after. I also remember some of the bosses/elites felt a bit ridiculous to fight and then they didn't always give whatever I was after - say, you had to fight them for some sort of item to create a Sylesti, but you fought them every time you could/they were available and you still didn't get a drop.

All replies are appreciated, though I may be slow in responding - at the time of posting this, I am getting ready to head out for our family's 4th of July celebration and won't be back until later tonight.

Pets :

Is breeding and selling pets a reliable source of income or not worth the effort? Is it only worth it if you have the 'latest and greatest' thing?

It's generaly not a reliable source of income but it can be worth it, i would advise you to make sure you are 100% you like the project before generating or breeding pets for a project.

Does level increase a pet's value?

In ceartain cases, if it's a max stat or a pet that you can't get in the wild at that level yes. Any exclusive themme, ny'vern, puffadore or ferrikki could be worth more if they are already train for battle especialy if they have good stats.

Any pets above the level 60 are also worth more due to the level reset of the wilds pets of those levels.

If I release a pet, is that equivalent to deleting it or can another user find it in the wild and capture it?

You, as the owner can get that pet back by paying a fee of 50 diamonds for it but no it will not be just roaming around for others players to catch.

I wish to get rid of the majority of the pets I have - would it be better to release them or attempt to sell them

It realy depend, old themmed may be worth somthing as well as possible project offsprings however, muddy pets with no color / traits coordination rarely find a home. ( i advise you to keep your any lupora that have traits for now and until the revamp of that speacie.)

Projects:

The most cost efficient way to make that project is to use essence, the zolnixi revamp didn't allowed to regenerate colors and most of the traits used are post regen anyway.

If you want to have the two of them looking exactly that it will require you to split the breeding at a realy early stage. You will nead 3 essence at least regardless of if you go for only one of the possibility or both. You will nead to keep an eye on avoiding hiden genes as mutch as possible during the split.

I would advise you to make 2 female for one male to maximize the egg making process at the beggining, if you want to use more essence you can too but one male is more then enough to start a project.

If you nead any more information on projects feel free to ping or pm me, i am alwais oppen to help. ^-^

Yes some people may be interessed by your project on the Pet Sharing and Design Discussion forum, i know i will probably keep an eye on it.

I saw that natural recovery is now a thing - yay! Does a pet's level and HP determine the time it takes to recover or is it a set length regardless?

it recovers by a percentage of the pet's full HP and loses a certain percentage of mana (though it will still regain the hp when the mana is 0) I believe you have to remove them from your team for the recovery in the first two regions, though you don't in the third region (excepting the Lost Grove)

If you were last here before the Proficiency update last year, none of your pets will have their elements/prof points assigned anymore because the whole system was overhauled.

Level up points are no longer a thing, for a start, and you get one prof point at lv0, one at lv30, one at lv60, one at 65, one at 70 (and once 75 unlocks, one then too), and each prof stat can have a total of three points put into it.
Now the amount you get per prof point in a stat increases with the pet's level (so a level 38 with one point in Str/Int/Dex/Agi will get +110, and at level 60 that same pet with that same one point will get +191 in that stat)
Str and Int use the same prof point, and it boosts according to the pet's assigned element, so no more people ending up with Air pets that are statted for Int. or anything unless they're equipped with items that way.
It's a lot more easy to work with.

Elements had their attacks rebalanced and redone a bit.

Equipment was also overhauled- to be better (just. the stat-boosts in general), and Crusader (Str/Int) and Warden (Dex/Agi) gear is no longer obtainable from drops, there's only the stuff that existed before the update (There is still gear called Warden gear, but it is not the same thing). Now there's Arcanist (Int) and Ravager (Str)

What you do with equipment ant prof points really depends on what you're using the pet for but generally:

Water, Earth, and Shadow pets are the typical slot 1/Tank elements. They generally get statted with HP, Str/Int, and Agi, depending on personal battling style and preferences and such.
Usually have Assassin (Str/Agi) or Illusionist (Int/Agi) gear depending on element

Light is usually a Party Healer and gets statted all Int (then dex), and generally equipped with Evoker gear. It's the only element that can reliably heal other party members (though Water can now do so, to an extent, with its lv30 and lv70 attacks)

Fire and Air are the Glass Cannon elements. Fire pets you might stat leaning more to Int with maybe some Dex, Air definitely want a combo of the two. Fire pets want Evoker, Air want Myrmidon.

These are just the general, you can still mess around (though once you reach the LG, you'll probably want to fall into Tant/Light Healer/Cannon format, because trying the LG with no Light pet seems like a Scary Prospect)

Is there a guide to the best equipment to strive for when your pets reach max level?

Currently the best gear available is the lv60 epic Vinethorn equipment (Tidal Lord, Storm Caller, Reaver, Lightbringer, Pyromancer, Warden), which is obtained ingame by beating the three bosses of the Lost Grove when they appear. It's better than the lv70 legendary gear.

Do pet species still have an influence over a pet's natural ability to be a specific role in a battle party, or can they be tinctured to base stats and be fully customized to what you need?

Overall not really, and it never did. In wild caught pets, the differences between the stats is so minimal it doesn't make a difference (save maybe luffox, who have atrocious Str but Agi on par with Fabled species), and in bred pets it just depends on how they've been bred. Any species could be a max stat if someone took the time to breed them (although now there's also SuperStats, which are pets that have been bred from a high-stat or max stat pet and a high-rarity Lost Grove pets (you might notice the (+0) next to your pet's stats now- that's for Lost Grove stats, where wild LG pets that are Rare have about +10-ish, epics +25-ish, and Legendary/Mystical +...40? Which they can pass on, though the numbers drop slightly)

Is there a recommended level strategy?

Not sure what this one means? A levelling strategy?

Currency

Since I was gone for so long, I got a free revive for all my pets, but also had to feed them all. It seemed to cost less to feed them than I remember - was the amount changed, or am I simply remembering incorrectly?

I believe it dropped slightly. Still will be worth it to get a Stablehand to make it just that bit cheaper though

What is the best way to gather coins?

Doing Missions. Definitely a guide on them in the player guides forum you can look at which I believe is fairly in-depth.

Is trading coins for diamonds a reasonable strategy to obtain them? I have very little to occasionally spend on sites, so I would really like to avoid having to purchase them should I find I have need of them.

Yes. Diamonds typically go for about 2500g=1dia, though it fluctuates. Buying with gold is a perfectly viable strategy, which we, ourself, use.

Yes.

Is there anything I can do to immediately improve my game experience with my current currency?
228k Gold/476 Scales/26k AP

I mean, I guess that would just... depend on what you consider "improving your game experience"?

Site Events

I know the pets don't, but do event-specific genes return the following year with their event? Or are they permanently retired after their first event?

Zone themed typically are available for two of their seasonal festivals before their theme retires. Exclusive themes are typically available for one before retiring (although last year's were available during this spring fest, so who knows)
The only 'Event Specific genes' are the Restricted Traits on Majestic Themes, which can get re-released, and the traits themselves can be put on pets with specific Disruptors (you can check out our guide on Restricted traits/Majestic Themes, where we go in-depth on all this)

Mmmm, well, now there's a Task Board each fest. There are a few Daily tasks, and a bunch of one-off tasks. You can get Festival currency for a whole lot of things, you get 3x Strong Snare Traps for the first themed pet you encounter every day.

Here's an image of part of the one-off section of the Task Board during Winter Fest:

Bosses have been altered somehow, multiple times, as Krinadon tries to make them optimal.
Now if you fight in the Fest Zone with pets over level 60 the drop table calculation runs twice, too, as of about half-way through Spring Fest- including bosses.
