I want to create a Solesti, but I don't have an essence of it. Where do I get one and what is it?

There are two types of Essences: Enhanced and Regular. Enhanced Essences unlock more Genotypes and have a higher chance of turning out the same colors that you choose.
You can find Essences by purchasing them in the Diamond Shop, finding them from defeated Sylestis, nurturing Egglings and Hatchlings, from Treasure Boxes and Mission Satchels, as well as rewards from Mini Games.
You can also purchase them from other players via the Trade Broker.

Where do you look to find out what essences you already have? I know I got one as treasure, but I'm not sure which one.

Your Inventory. You can access it from the Account Tab at the top.

I believe it's the Explore Tab, actually? Unless it's supposed to be the Account tab, in which case its location on mine might be a bug. xD;

To clarify, you don't actually use it. Generating a pet of that species/breed will automatically consume the essence of the type.
If you have a regular Essence, make sure to use the Regular Generator. If it's an Enhanced, make sure to use the Enhanced Generator.
