You get scales by nurturing egglings and hatchlings.

However, they have to be nurtured correctly for them to give a scale
Eggling
Cold > warm it
Warm > Cool it
Restless > turn it
Dull > polish it
Hatchling
Weak > work out
Derpy > read
Hungry > feed
restless > play
slow > race

How do I remove a pet from my party? I want to take Runic off the team but the button between manage pet and view lineage to remove him is not showing up.

Go to the party page and click the large red '-' above the pet in question. Just remember to hit 'Set Party' when you're done swapping pets around.
