I've been here for some time but i still dunno what it is. Help? The only thing why i noticed this was when i was fighting two nightfall brigands i kept directing to the first one but the attacks slant off to the second one, and the second one had an ability named Fortified, which increase Physical and Magical mitigation by 25%.

Mitigation is basically a defense stat. Physical mitigation decreases the amount of damage a physical attack does when it strikes, and magical mitigation does the same for magical attacks.
For future reference, hovering over a stat on a pet's profile page gives you a small popup that describes what the stat does.
