How do you get essences? I see them all in trades but don't know how to get them myself.

You can buy them on the trade broker, buy them for Diamonds in the Diamond Shop, occasionally win them as prizes when nurturing eggs, and I once got one from the magical chest encounter in Umbra Forest. There also might be other ways.

If you are wondering how to generate a pet, use the essence in your inventory, then go to the generator where you can select it and generate as you generated your starter pet!

Can you only get them from nurturing eggs? or hatchlings as well?

You can find essences through nurturing, battling, exploring, mission satchels, and playing Jinxie Jamboree. The drop rate is pretty rare for all of them, which is why they tend to be a little expensive.

Essences drop from nurturing and battling will be the species that you were nurturing/battling at the time of the drop. The rest drop random non-fabled species essences. And all only drop regular and (super rarely) enhanced essences.

So mystical essences must be bought from the diamond shop, and most fabled species essences can only be obtained through the diamond shop (or nurturing). The trade broker usually has most species essences.



Also, you don't need to "use" the essence in inventory (don't think it'll allow that). Just go straight to the generator, click load essence, choose the type of essence (mystical, enhance, regular), and then the species, then generate to your heart's content.
