Summary:
Long ago, four great beasts ruled the elementsearth, air, water, and fire. With their own unique talents they kept the world in balance. That was, until a new element emerged. From out of the realm of legends, a darkness took shape. The guardians of the four elements rallied together in order to fight and fight they did. Although they defeated the beast of darkness, it came at great cost. The legendary beings lost their own strength in the final blows, falling silent to the world.

At peace though, the world grew away from the legends. Tribes into towns, cities into countries. A new era came, made to rise by human power. The humans still sung songs or mentioned the myths of dragons or the turtle who could swim in any sea, but now the humans looked at the legends as amusing stories. Schools taught only human history. But what did it matter in a time of peace?

After ten thousand years of silence though, the darkness took shape once again. Now it is up to the old elemental spirits to find new guardians for the modern era. Those who will wield the elemental powers must be heroes in their hearts to face the new era to comethe era of the spider queen.

* the new guardians are humans with elemental powers living in a normal, modern world like ours
* the old guardians are not separate characters and will be played by the player of the new guardian.
* The old guardians can be used as voices of wisdom and the advice, teachers to the new guardian, however, they do not have a corporeal form anymore. At most they can possess their new guardian, but is only to be used in the most dire of circumstances in order to channel more power.

Earth guardian: Stag
Represents warmth, life, heart, and steadiness. The stag is loyal and the most wrapped up in the matters of the living. A loving and a giving creature, he is also loyal and unmovable at times. He will fight for a single side or issue based on the pulls of his heart. A fierce protector, raging warrior, and gentle guardian. As long as the heart is concerned, he will follow whatever lead it demands, even to his own demise. Would prefer best if all would live in peace.
Appearance: He towers over all those in the forest with great horns whose dark brown seems more akin to tree branches than antlers. Songs tell of the carpet of leaves and flowers that trail down from them in a perfect mane. His eyes are like morning stars and his hooves a heartbeat on land. Some speak of proud flanks though and a head held always high.

Water guardian: Sea turtle
Represents the passage of time, wisdom, and patience. The turtle waits long periods of time for large changes to occur. That doesn't mean he cant act quickly, but sees the benefit of a carefully plotted out course and the easy unfurling of plans that have been well made. A kind being, but ultimately distant from humankind. His wisdom is not given freely, but only when asked, though his words always carry weight, as infrequent as they are.
Appearance: Some legends speak of a turtle the size of an island, though a few say he's only a tiny jewel. Hes almost always said to have a shell of exquisite beauty though, emerald and azure making gentle swirling patterns like that of the sea. His age is also apparent in the deep wrinkles, eyes of infinite knowledge and the drapery of kelp adorning his fins.

Fire guardian: dragon
Represents death, destruction, instinct, and cunning. The dragon prizes those of quick wit and body, but not those whose minds are clouded in emotion. He is not a cold creature or full of rage, but rather one who knows the benefit of the balance that destruction brings. Fire is to be controlled, not to control the user. When not doling out punishment, humans were said to travel far and wide in order to sit at his claw and listen to endless stories, never lacking in flare.
Appearance: Legends range widely, calling him a black beast adorned in a smokey haze and embers, or with scarlet gleaming scales, even ranging to midnight blue or jade. They all agree that his breath and claws are bringers of fire. However, his eyes are bright and unclouded, his beard as soft as cold ashes.

Air guardian: eagle
Represents swiftness, knowledge, adaptability, and perspective. The eagle has a great ability to change its views or standings in matters and loves to learn, even if the various viewpoints contradict each other. Height can offer perspective that no other element can. Never too set in his ways, the eagle prizes those of neutral mindsets and active lifestyles. His voracious appetite for learning is second only to the thrill of change.
Appearance: His wings are said to span the length of several homes, their plumage golden and brown. His claws are adorned in runes and long streamers fly from his tail. While he can fly higher than any other bird, his speeds are also unmatched. Some legends even say his wings are tipped in golden blades or that the wind he creates can cut as well as any blade, the gusts blown from the edges of his great wings.

Dark bringer: spider
Represents chaos, cold, fear, and soul. The spiders presence is felt like an omen long before she appears. She cannot be predicted and yet she seems to know everything that makes up a person and knows how to use it for an advantage. She is neither wise, nor smart. She simply exists in the way that sunlight always does, but she can make the sunlight feel cold. Fear is said to give her power.
Appearance: The legends say very little of the spiders looks. She was always said to be clothed in shadows so that no one could see her true appearance. Those that did likely lived not to tell. In truth, the only beings who know anything about her are probably the four guardian beasts and her own minions, tiny spiders with red Xs on their backs. Most stories speculate that the spider queen looked the same.

Yep, that's it. To clarify, is my character the human being or an eagle?

The human. The eagle would only be capable of talking to the human it chooses, more or less. So you could also play out conversation between them, but the main characters are the humans.
