If you hit the exit zone button, you will lose your current position- though safe zones may allow for saving of position once acquired, I do not know for certain- and extend the cooldown for elite/named enemies appearing.
If you walk back to the portal, there will be no penalty.

While you're exploring the Lost Grove, you're "locked in" and many other things are disabled. It is considered too danger and you are literally out exploring - so that is the reasoning.
So pets won't regen, you can't manage your party with by swapping, you can't visit other locations, etc.
There aren't any safe zones at this time in the Lost Grove, so you must exit it in order to remove that restriction. However, using the "Exit Zone" button will incur a 60 minute penalty on your spawns. Meaning, they won't be available until 60 minutes passes from the moment you exited the zone.
But, there is a portal at the entrance to the zone that you can use to leave the zone without incurring any spawn penalty.
The harder part about development for me at this point is brainstorming on what exactly I want and how I want it to work and having the time do it. I usually don't have any issues w/ the actual implementation of things anymore. Usually. =P
