I have this problem for a while now. At least two months, don't remember exactly.
Randomly when making some actions game will freeze for few minutes (never counted, about 5?). Opening new tabs and trying to enter sylestia from them won't work. However, if something like this happens on Chrome I can login on Firefox and it's not freezed. But on Firefox it also can freeze.

Some of actions that trigger that:
- buying something on broker
- sending mail to another person

It does not always freeze when I do actions listed above, but it's like 1 every 3 or so actions.

Scenario that happened just some minutes ago:
1. I bought something on broker on Chrome
2. Game freezes
3. I login on Firefox
4. I bought something different on broker on Firefox
5. Game freezes
6. After some time on Chrome I got 504 gateway (usually it just un-freeze, just today it threw 504), on Firefox there was a pop-up "Trade is no longer available".

Unfortunately, this is an issue I just can't pinpoint. =(

I know the pages that break. I know the players who only have the issue. I know that it's not a 100% reproduce-able issue... but can somewhat be consistently triggered. And I know roughly what is happening... I just don't know why.

Our Host hasn't been able to help b/c the issue is somewhat sporadic and since I personally have never had the issue, there isn't much information I can offer them and I can't help them diagnose and test things.

We used to have basically the exact same issue and a change I did to what is causing the issue fixed it for some of those players... but did nothing for others.

It's a very, very odd issue and the fact that it only affects the same players is extremely baffling. =( When I've tried to cross information about you guys with the issue... I can't find really any common thing. You guys use different browsers, different devices, different ISPs, and live all over the world.

I went upstairs to eat dinner and left my explore window open and came back to

Gateway Timeout
The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

Additionally, a 504 Gateway Timeout error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This seems to have reset my zone? I'm back at the very beginning. I'm just going to post this here because I think it's the same issue, and I wanted to let you know it can happen when the person isn't even using the page at all. All that would have been going on is region chat updating itself.

Reset your zone? Like as if you exited?

I have never heard of such an issue before, so I really have no idea what would cause that.

Exiting a zone is a manual script (or me running a script like a zone reset). It shouldn't be able to happen naturally - especially over just a timeout.

504 errors can be produced for any number of reasons. Given the circumstances, I would probably guess this was an unrelated timeout to the issues other players are having - which are somewhat consistent.

I guess just let me know if you have any additional issues related to this, otherwise I'll just assume it was a one-time kind of thing.

@Galaxis,

Just curious, but if you send a PM and trigger the timeout.

If you send that exact mail to the same person a second time, does it continue to timeout?

Or even when basically all variables are the same, you still get different results?

You can send PMs to yourself to test if you'd like to try.

Basically, if I just had ANYTHING to go on, I could try and debug further. I am just completely in the dark on this issue and have exhausted all known possible issues with what's been established so far.

Usually it does not give timeouts. It did it only twice yet. Usually it freezes and after few minutes it goes normally.
So if it freezes when I try to send a pm, after few minutes it successfully send this pm. After a timeout the mail is also sent.
After one timeout I sent the same mail to the same person again and it went well.

As far as I can tell:
- For the broker, it freezes on the search (e.g., "Request URL:https://www.sylestia.com/trade/tradebroker/?search=true&page=1&name=boos&type=22&sort=5&minprice=1&maxprice=999999999&maxlvl=250&q0=on&q1=on&q2=on&q3=on&q4=on&q5=on") after confirming buying an item. In network console it showed me this request took exactly 3 minutes.
- For the mail it freezes on Request URL:https://www.sylestia.com/account/social/?s=1 after clicking "Send". Also exactly for 3 minutes.

Here which mails got freezed:

After screenshot I send few more around x:x:58 and they didn't freeze, but it still looks like it usually do it at the end of a minute.

EDIT: Game just freezed in Snowman Exchange after "Upgrade All Snowballs". So I guess it's not something limited to mail and broker :P

So, the issue is 100% related to the practice of basically preventing form re-submission. You know, 'doing something', page reloads, press F5, "do you want to resubmit the form?". If you click yes, it will resubmit the form exactly as it was even if the content on the page has changed.

We use a lot of dynamic page stuff and allowing form re-submission is not only annoying (when one is just simply trying to refresh a page to load new content), but will also spit out errors and such if whatever you are submitting has changed. It can also cause things like repeated PM submissions, repeated forum posts, etc. It's just all around bad for our particular environment.

So... to avoid this, we use the common practice of having the page redirect to itself after it's done processing whatever it is you submitted. Which - should work just fine.

However, as you are aware, it doesn't seem to like to work for certain people on certain features. =P

Anyway!

I made a change to how the Inbox redirects to itself after sending a PM. If you want to test some more with it, you can let me know if you're still having the issue or not.

Seems to be working fine now, not a single freezing after ~20 mails :)
I'll ping in the future if I notice any freezing in this section.

Yes, please do. Maybe just update me after a few days or a week or so?

I'd very much like to know if that actually resolved the issue or not.
