You have to earn them, I currently have two ;

One from participating In a contest
And one from posting a certain amount of posts.

There are tons more, and you ask also buy them on the broker for a high price.

How do you donate a personal item? I clicked the button and no things to donate were available, but I do have stuff in my inventory.

The items you can give are limited, but you can give brewing supplies and avatar items.
