~Prologue: A Dance of Dark and Light~
A voice arose from the darkness that surrounded the cave, a beacon of light in the pitch black waters. It spoke words in a strange language, in dulcet tones that drew the creature in the cave closer and closer. Ivory poked her pure white head out of the caverns mouth and looked around for a few seconds before screaming and recoiling her head back as a jaw spiked with sharp stalagmite-like teeth snapped at the entrance, grazing her skull and almost ripping a patch of her mane straight out of her skull. Ebony turned to look at the opening of the cave, where the monstrosity could now be seen. A purple fish, unlike any they had ever seen, was pacing the entranceway to their cavern. It was as big as a shark, with a mouth rimmed with sharp teeth. It was leering at them, it's bright yellow eye-slits glinting and narrowing in the light emitted from their cave. Ivory forced her eyes shut and willed it to go away. Ebony rolled her eyes. "That's not going to do anything."
Ivory ignored her, continuing to close her eyes and tucking her head in near their chest, hoping the monster would disappear. Ebony rolled her glittering purple eyes and carefully inched her face closer to the opening, waiting quietly and cautiously for the jawed monster to appear again. When it didn't she cast a slim ray of light into the area around the cave, making sure not to alert any of the larger fry in the deeper ocean to her presence, scanning her surroundings for any trace of the creatures existence.

~Chapter 1:Curious Little Fishies~
Qui-qui sighed deeply. "Lily! What's taking you so long?! We have things to do, places to explore. Come on!"A sky blue Kelpari emerged from the red curtain separating the room in two. "Finally!" exclaimed Qui-qui before turning and noticing what her friend was wearing. "LILY!" The Kelpari was decked out in a heap of pearl necklaces, gold hoops in each ear, and a ruby comb in her tangled mane of hair. Qui-qui placed her hoof on her forehead. "We're going exploring, not to a photo shoot Lily! Come on!" Lily rolled her eyes and began removing her extensive jewelry. "Why do you have to be such a spoil-sport?" she complained. "You ruin all my fun." Qui-qui giggled. "You cannot go exploring like that Lily. Don't be silly. Ooh, Silly Lily." Lilypad shot her a nasty look but soon exploded into a fit of giggles. "Let's go!" she proclaimed. "The ocean's not going to explore itself!" She swam out of the door and into the dense seaweed forest surrounding their little town, Qui-qui in tow.
"Here!" Lilypad proclaimed. "I bet you we discovered this place!" Qui-qui laughed. "We've been swimming for twenty minutes Lily!" She checked her map and grinned. "We just left Kelpari Cove a minute ago. We haven't even hit the deeps yet. Don't be so impatient." Lily obviously did not have the word patient in her vocabulary, as she proceeded to scamper along, stopping to nibble at some coral and watch some angelfish swim before pulsing along. The water began to change as they entered the deeps. It became darker and murkier, and carried with it the feel of despair and agony. It was not pleasant. However, the two friends kept swimming. The deeps were nothing new to them, and swimming through them was more unpleasant than frightening. Lilypad yawned. This was all boring to her, and Lily had been taught from a young age a sense of superiority. Kelpari were apex predators, top of the food chain, and were quite vain, as well as quite wealthy. While Lily lived in the lap of luxury, Qui-qui lived with her parents in the poor development near the brink of the sea cliff. Lily lived much better than her, which Lily never forgot to rub in her face. It wasn't meant to be mean, it was just learned, and Lily didn't think about it. Qui-qui sighed. Life was so unfair. "Wait up!" she yelled to Lily, "Wait for me!"

~Chapter 2:A Strange New Cave~
Qui-qui frowned as they swam through the coral reef and pointed her paw. "That's a new cave. We've swum past this reef a million times, and I have never seen that cave before." Lilypad's ears pricked up and she swam back to Qui-qui. "Well what are you waiting for?" She asked, "Let's go!" Before she could set a fin into the cave, Qui-qui grabbed her tail. "What?" Lily snarled in annoyance. Qui-qui recoiled, scared, before she shook her fins and said, "You don't know what's in there. Be careful!" Qui-qui, unlike naive Lilypad, had seen danger, as well as dangerous people. Living on the dark side of town had changed her for the worse, and she knew what creatures were capable of. Lily rolled her eyes but progressed more slowly, casting a small light spell to light up the cave.
A mysterious voice called out from the darkness in the cave. "Who is there?" Another voice joined in. "Why are you here?" Qui-qui instinctually bared her fangs, but Lily just swam in gently. "Umm, hi, I'm Lilypad, and this is my best friend forever, Qui-qui. Who are you?" A gentle voice, in two-part harmony, responded,"Well come in and see for yourself!" The two swam in cautiously, shivering with fear. What they saw made Qui-qui shiver, and Lilypad recoil in disgust.
