This is my first Festival on Sylestia and I'm not sure how to tell if a pet is one of the special fest pets? Could someone clue me in? Thank you!

When a themed pet appears in the Festival Zone (the only place wild themed pets appear) there will be text in the log box that says that a Rare Enemy has appeared rather than "you have encountered an Enemy".
Once you enter a battle with one, it will a) always be alone, and b) where it usually says "Wild _______" it will have the theme name instead of 'wild'
