I have this lunemara who recently became an adult, and he suddenly got a gene on his wings, even though it only has Avatar Wings labeled

That's not a bug, that's just how Avatar wings look- they got updated to take after their original pre-revamp appearance.
This was listed among the other lunemara post-revamp changes here.
