Prologue
The young Zolnixi bounded about in the great field with her sister."C'mon, Kiyomi! I wanna go over there, by those pretty flowers!" she exclaimed with joy as she raced to a clearing with purple patches of plants. Kiyomi followed with a snort of amusement. "How many times do I need to tell you, Chie? Those aren't flowers, they're a type of mushroom that looks a flower." But Kiyomi was too late. Chie was already rolling around gleefully in the flower imposters. "THESE ones are flowers! Look at their soft and pretty petals!" Chie rubbed her cheek on the petals with a blissful smile. Kiyomi sat down with a playful huff, but glanced around warily. They were in Lupora territory, and the carnivorous packs were notoriously unforgiving to any intruder they found. All was silent and well, until Kiyomi's ears caught a faint growl; her eyes spotted a brown blur rushing at Chie. "Chie! Run! Get away!" Kiyomi cried as she crouched and prepared to launch herself at the attacker. Chie's head whipped up in terror, and she bolted back the way they came. The brown blur gave chase to the little tan Zolnixi. Kiyomi leaped at the attacker and latched onto a thick mane. She scratched her back claws on its ribs. Her teeth tore at the mane. Her front paws batted the attacker's face. Almost immediately it stopped chasing Chie. The sudden halt threw Kiyomi over the monster's head. He stalked closer and closer to her as she laid on the ground, too dazed to try and escape. Her last sight was a huge brown Lupora covered in deep, bleeding scratches. His lip pulled back over his dagger-like teeth and his pale green eyes narrowed at her threateningly. Just before she lost consciousness, Kiyomi thought of her sister as she felt his teeth dig into her neck. Please, Chie... please get home safely... Kiyomi was swallowed up by the darkness, and was never seen or heard from again.
