I'm on the "return to Ethernia" quest bit thing, but no matter how I try to leave Astryl's Tranquility and go back to Ethernia, nothing gets recorded as me returning, and I can't advance to the next zone.

You have reached the end of progression for what's available at this time.
The MegaZone is set to be released in January, which will be the next massive release of content.
