When I go to 'explore' and click on the different regions on the map nothing happens and, consequently, I can't advance in the tutorial and play this wondrous newfound game. Can someone please help me? I am a big online virtual pet community fan and this looks like a pretty good one to get into.

What stage are you at in the tutorial? I noticed you already made your first pet (and he looks fantastic by the way) so you should be close to getting to Viridian Meadows (which is the grassy plains looking area on the map). It might help in figuring out what's causing the issue.

It looks like you are on the step to learn how to explore. Go to this link: http://www.sylestia.com/explore/map/ and then click on the Viridian Meadows part of the World Map.
If that isn't working, try doing a hard refresh (shift + F5) once or twice.
If that doesn't work, you may have an addon running that is blocking the map from working properly. You can either disable your addons or try a different browser.
If that still doesn't work, then could you take a screenshot of your world map so that I could take a look?
