Can other people catch them? Do they go into the world? Or do they disappear forever? Please help!

Released pets can not be caught by other players. They still exist, but you can't "find" them in the world. Released pets can be bought back by the owner who released them for 50 diamonds. One can find released pets via the advanced pet search.
