While the small bug coudn't speak it seemed to indicate that it was a mecanism of some kind, it wasn't only there for the look and could probably be activated somhow.

Until you reached it, it seemed to be perfectly sealed and without any opening but once there you noticed an opening leading downward into a small tunel. The place seemed rather humid and algee was growing on the rock in places.

I take in and study my surroundings for a while. "Did the flood make it all humid and left algae here? Or was it always like this?"

I back up quickly, startled by their sudden change in behavior.

" A bit of both, it is leading to a water point so algea was alwais more or less growing around this tunel but with the flood it realy started to colonise the whole place alot more." The lush vegetation surrounding the pillar didn't do anything to help you in this task but it seemed as if there was some kind of encien mecanism burried beneth some of the vines.
