First off, for those who don't know, the word Tarragon is simply another word for Dragon. (I wanted something different.)
Small note about myself: I have been roleplaying for more than 20 years. I also write stories when I get bored with my other projects. The stuff I write about (whether it is for rp only or for a full story) is always Sci-fi/Fantasy stuff. I did a PBEM (Play By Email) roleplay about dragonriders for over 10 years....and is one of my favorite types. I love dragons. As for this particular RP, it too will be about Dragonriders, with the exception of the dragon type. We will be using any Sylestian Pet in this RP. Below you will find the rules, character types allowed/disallowed, as well as the who's who of the RP, the sign-up/Character Bio.
Although I used to play on a PBEM, I ahve also done forum based RP's, in fact I had owned my own Forum for RP as well...sadly I wasn't able to advertise enough and get enough players for the RP and had to close the forum down. So, I decided to try something here, since I see many RPers here...I just hope my RP is appealing enough to all of you.


Rules
Most of these rules are simply common sense, but unfortunately there is a need to post them.

1.) Respect all who are involved.

2.) No Godmodding. (Godmodding is taking control of another players character during roleplay. Its frowned upon and with good reason...you only control your character and no one else's. The best way to explain it is by example:
(My friends post:
Char inhaled deeply, summoning as much power as he could handle. Then his wild gaze focused on
his attacker and his jaws opened. Bright orange flames burst forth as both a warning and defense.

My post:
Kalai jumped out of the way of Chars attack and dashed behind him. Die! she cried; a flash of
lightning shot towards Chars back and knocked him forward, twitching and dazed. He couldnt get up.)


Now how do I know whether or not Char could get up, or whether he fell at all? Its not my responsibility to
control Char - I only have control of Kalais actions. A better response would have been this:

(Kalai jumped out of the way of Chars attack and dashed behind him. Die! she cried; a flash of
lightning shot towards Char's back, making a loud CRACKing sound.)


This makes it so that my friend can respond to my attack - whether or not they choose to get hit is completely up to them. Its usually fair to allow your character to dodge two of every three hits when doing combat roleplay. That makes it fair and a little more realistic. Keep in mind that godmodding doesnt apply only to combat: it applies to every day interactions as well. Be cautious when typing posts. Make sure to keep it fun and fair.

3.) When writing a post...there is no max length, it can be as long as you want it to be. But, please...make sure you have a minimum of five sentences. If you struggle with something to write...you can make up for it by describing the area your character is in...whether it is in the forest, or inside a building etc...describe the trees, plants etc...or describe what is on the walls inside a building. Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation is NOT something I will dwell upon, unless it creates a problem with others understanding what your post means. Just do your best.

4.) If you are entering into this RP, that is fine you are able to jump in where ever, so long as it fits with the posts prior to yours. But...if you are already in this RP and plan to leave it...please post your character exiting, then do an OOC (Out of Charater) at the bottom of your post, to say your character is no longer in this RP. This way the RP can go on without your character. If you have plans on not being here for a few days, please do the same and post your character exiting, then do the OOC saying your character has left this RP. Too many times I have seen RP's where things were going great then suddenly one or more players don't return to post, therefore the RP is at a standstill and unable to move on. If you are gone more than two days and have not posted your character leaving the RP, I shall find a way to write your character out. But please, this is your responsibility, do not force my hand in this as it is considered Godmodding.

5.) Please limit your Characters to a max of three characters. When posting for a character please put a small OOC at the top of the post that says "Posting for (Character Name)" so others know who you are posting for. In fact, please use the following format:


Example:
OOC: Posting for A'loiene and A'matis in Kelna Vale.

IC:
A'loiene stood alone in the tunnel passage leading out of Kelna Vale. She hadn't left Kelna Vale since she arrived as a babe. This would be her first time setting foot outside the city. She turned back to see A'matis approaching. She gave a soft smile as the shifter came to a stop beside her. "Nervous are you?" A'loiene nodded as she looked off down the tunnel. "No need to be, I'll be with you." A'matis replied. A'loiene smiled and gave a nod before heading off down the tunnel with A'matis at her side.

OOC: Posting for Alinar in Arithemar.

IC:
Alinar sat atop Bastian, his Octequigon. He was just about to head outside the barrier to hunt when a runner came up to him, handing him a message. The small boy of twelve waited quietly as Alinar read the message. Alinar nodded. "Tell Soryn I'll be there as soon as I have returned from hunting." he said as he gave the boy a small nod, then added. "I'll just have to visit the Weaponsmaster for my practice, after I see Soryn." the boy nodded and ran off back in the direction he came from, while Alinar headed toward the barrier.

Tarragon Lands is an RP about Dragon and their riders who protect the lands from various dangers that plague the lands.
RP Background/History:

On Earth, the year would have been 2217.
Ketara is a world much like Earth, with the exception of the type of life that flourish upon its' surface. The Ketarians range from sentient beings such as Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Tarragons (Dragons) and Octequigon (Octequin for short. A creature of my creation. Below is a description of it.) Each day they struggle against the dangers of Ketara. Originally, only the Elves and Dwarves alongside the Tarragons and Octequigons were the only Ketarians. But, then Humans invaded. They came from the stars, a little more than one hundred years ago. Humans sought out another planet that was Earth-like in order to settle. Their own Earth was dying. There were millions of Humans living on Space Stations orbiting the dying Earth, millions others died upon Earth's surface due to the toxic gases. No one really knows how, or what happened, just that Earth was no longer inhabitable. For two hundred years Humans inhabited Space Stations. Some planets had been found to be inhabitable, and settlers went to live out their lives on the new planets. Each year, five teams were sent out in search of habitable planets. When one was found, they returned with their report, then a Transport ship carrying hundreds of settlers was sent out to the planet in question. After settling on Mars, which is now known as Aslirian, and Venus, now known as Tasharan. It was decided to seek out another planet to accommodate more settlers. Because Ketara would take eleven years of travel, it was decided that the settlers would go with the team. At their final approach of Ketara, they realized that an Asteroid Field formed around the planet, surrounding it as if it were a protective barrier. Those who traveled upon the transport craft were woken. They studied the asteroid field for a year, orbiting Ketara. A passageway was spotted within the asteroid field, and it was decided to take the chance. Unfortunately, they hadn't timed it right, and their transport craft was destroyed. They crashed down upon the surface of Ketara. Many were injured, and worse still, many were killed. They lost all communications with the Space Stations, and were stranded upon a new world. Two hundred years later, they are considered Ketarians.

There are Three land masses on Ketara. Tarragon being the largest and the size of Europe, Asia and Africa combined. Arithemar, home of the Elves. Kelna Vale is home of the Shapeshifters, Dasfield is the home of the Humans, and Tarragon Warren are home to the Dragons and their riders, all four are located within Tarragon Lands. A wide river called the Qresh Channel separates Tarragon and the much smaller land mass of Khilheim, home of the Dwarves. And last, the smallest of the three land masses is Northrot...and conveniently to the North of Tarragon and Khilhein. Qresh Channel runs North to South. If you followed it to the end in the North, there you will find a vast ocean, known as the Razor Abyss. Razor reefs prevent any vessel from crossing. It is assumed that Northrot lies beyond this ocean.

Below you will find a list of Beings/creatures that inhabit Ketara.

You may use any Sylestian Pet, the only difference is the Ny'venes are called Tarragons in this RP.

Humans~Originated from Earth. (I'm sure we all know what they are.)

Elves~Ketarian. Look much like a Human with pointed ears and magical abilities.

Tarragons~Tarragon is just another word for Dragon. (When dragons are hatched, the hatchlings are about the size of a large German Sheppard. Each day their size increases. The amount of the increase
would coincide with their being a small, medium or large dragon. By the end of two weeks they are about half the size they will become, (making them rideable), reaching their full size by a month. But even though they are full size they don't have the bulk on them that an older dragon does so they can easily be identified still as a young dragon. So... at about a month old. They are their full length, but not as "bulky" as an adult dragon. They would not be able to fit into the dining hall or any inside "human" room anymore, and they are no longer "hatchlings" but are young dragons. Picture... pre-teens or teenagers. Not yet adjusted to their new reach or in total control of their limbs.) Telepathic with the being they bonded with.

DwarvesKetarian. short, stocky human-like creatures who are generally skilled in mining and metalworking.

Octequigon~Octequin for short. A creature of my creation. These creatures look very much like horses upon first glance. Shape and size of horses. Body of a horse, eight legs ending in dragon talons and the head of a dragon. Dragon scales cover the body. It has a mane of horse hair. A dragon's tail with spikes, with a tuft of horse hair at the tip. Sports wings that are only strong enough to glide through the air with. (Basically, it is a mixture of a Longma of Chinese Mythology and Sleipnir of Norse Mythology.) Telepathic with the being they chose to bond with.

Shapeshifters~Ketarian. Human-like being who is capable of turning into any animal/creature. A shape changer. All shapeshifter's names have an apostrophe somewhere in their name. Natural born shifters have a weakness when shifting back into humanoid forms. It can be they have a hard time breathing for a few minutes, they get sick, they are weak, etc (can be anything.) Natural born shifters can maintain an animal shape for up to three hours. The weakness (whatever it is) lasts for about ten minutes for natural born shifters.

Night-Glyder~A Human size and shaped, bat-like creature. Dark in color, ranging from a deep brown to a black. Head like a bat. Wings that connect human arms to the sides of the body. Clawed feet and hands. One bite from these, one would have approximately two hours to get to a Healer. Scratched by one, you won't die but you would become very sick and wish you were dead.

Cloud Wraiths~Basically a cloud surrounding and hiding a Wraith-like being inside. Because of the cloud, no one has ever seen these Wraiths.

Evil Sorcerer~It is not know what this Sorcerer looks like. I shall leave that for RP. But, he will be an NPC (Non-playing Character). Because he is an NPC, anyone may use him. Just try not to post right after another player who already used him. Allow others to post first, at least three posts (depending how many are in the RP).

Dragon Rider~Rides a Dragon, they bond with them from the time they hatch:

Octequigon Rider~Rides a Octequigon. Octequigon choose their rider. If their rider dies, the Octequigon will refuse to eat, drink etc...and allow themselves to wither and die. They cannot live without their bondmate. If they die, their riders are able to live on, but they are not the same. Bonded to Couriers, Guards/Fighters. They travel at a much faster rate than a normal horse:

Blacksmith~a metalsmith who creates objects from wrought iron or steel by forging the metal, using tools to hammer, bend, and cut. Anything from tools to weapons, to armor:

Tailor/Seamstress~sews clothes, fabrics and apparel for a living. Also is skilled at altering clothing and apparel to fit a client/customer:

Master Trainer~Trains new riders in either riding a dragon or Octequigon:

Weaponsmaster~Master of all weapons. Trains Weapons class. A vigorous and exhausting class:

Sounds absolutely wonderful! I do have a question though, can one be a Mage and a dragon rider?

Sure thing! One thing about this RP, is that your character can be anything...just remember especially when it comes to characters with magic or even those without...it can't be all powerful. For every strength there is a weakness.
For instance, with a Shapeshifter...shifting takes time shifting from something large as a dragon to something small...and of course, there is some weakness....whether it is that the character gets sick trying to shove all that mass into a small body, or perhaps have a hard time breathing after the shift...meaning it will take some time to be used to the new shape.
A Character who has weaponry skills, he/she might be strong in handling a sword, but weak with a dagger or Bow.
Even if a Character is an Arch Mage...or even the Grand Arch Mage...they still mess up...no one is perfect. Although, they may not mess up as much as a Mage would...and especially not as much as an Accepted or Novice.

Also, If you are a Dragon rider, post an image of a Ny'vene in your Bio so others will know what it looks like. It doesn't even have to be one you own, could be one you might want to own etc...
Same for any Sylestia's you plan to use in this RP. Please post an image of it, so others know that is who your character speaks of when speaking of their pet.

I have one main Characters for now. I am also adding two NPC's:

Character Name: A'loiene

Character Age: 17, nearly 18 years.

Character Gender: Female

Character Description: Raven black hair, amethyst eyes. Thin, supple, and graceful body.

Character Race: Elven

Character Skills/Abilities: Hunting, Staff/Bow, and Magic, also has the ability to shift due to her many years among the Shifters.

Character Weaknesses: She can hunt, but her tracking skills are weak. She is particularly good with a Bow, but her sword skills, hand to hand combat or use of daggers are very weak. She is capable of using a Staff, but she has never mastered it, she is average at best. She is capable of shifting, but it weakens her more than one who was born as a shifter. She is unable to stay in animal form for more than and hour. Her weakened state last half an hour. Twenty minutes longer than a natural born shifter.

Character Locations: Arithemar, in Tarragon Lands. (Current location unknown to her people. But she is in Kelna Vale, home of the Shapeshifters.)

Character Occupation (Ie: Dragon rider, Octequigon rider, Blacksmith, Tailor/Seamstress, Master Trainer, Weaponsmaster, Grand Arch Mage, Arch Mage, Mage, Accepted, or Novice, etc...): Elven Princess. Eventually, she will be a Dragon rider. She does have magical abilities, but she has learned to suppress them, since shifters have no actual magical abilities, she was unable to train when her abilities came in.

Character Short History: A'loine is Alinar's twin sister, and had been kidnapped as a baby. Luckily, she was saved by a male Shapeshifter, who had been out on a hunt and spotted two Human males, who were struggling to care for the child. He overheard the two men speaking about a ship being sent for them, and would be there in the morning. They mentioned she was most likely crying because she was hungry. One male held his hand over the child's face, doing something to her to cause her to sleep. J'kar (now deceased) put two and two together, realizing this whole scene was out of the ordinary. 'Why would two Human males have a female Elven babe?' he asked himself. The Elven people, as well as the Shapeshifters and Dwarves were not very trusting toward the Humans when they first arrived. Since, the Dwarves had just brushed their hands of the Humans, and barricaded themselves within their mountais city. The Elves, although kind, still didn't trust the Humans. The Shapeshifters and Humans didn't get along. Humans believed the Shapeshifters were unnatural and evil. No Elven parent would allow their babe to be in the arms of a Human. J'kar wasn't sure how he knew, but he felt he needed to get this child away from those two men. He waited.

One settled down to sleep while the other took first watch. J'kar waited until the first it was time for the second watch. He knew the second man wouldn't be fully focused, due to just waking. Then, luck was with him, the second man fell back to sleep while on watch. J'kar slipped from the tree-line, sneaking up on the two sleeping men. He only hoped the child wouldn't give him away. He carefully lifted the small babe from the ground. She was already wrapped in a blanket to ward herself from the chill of the night air. With the child, J'kar slipped back into the tree-line. He did his best to put a great amount of distance between him and the two men, before he settled down to rest among the branches of a very tall tree. The child never stirred, but he knew she lived, as she was breathing. The next day, he made his way back to the mountain valley, Kelna Vale, that is his home. The child still slept. He traversed the winding and dangerous tunnels, that, if the right path were to be taken, it would lead out into the mountain vale. J'kar took the child to the Healers hall, where they were finally able to wake the child, but whatever had been done had left a lasting side effect in her mind, although it hadn't been noticed until she grew older. J'kar and his mate, D'nira (also deceased) raised the Elven child alongside their daughter A'matis, naming her A'loiene, due to the name that had been stitched into her blanket. J'kar and D'nira only changed her name to match those of the shifters. She eventually learned to hunt, as well as to defend herself. When her magic abilities manifested, she believed there was something wrong with her, never revealing her secret to anyone. She learned to suppress it. A'matis (J'kar and D'nira's (both deceased) daughter) and A'loiene trained together, played and laughed together, but recently A'loiene's mind has been unsettled and unstable. Those two men had done something to her to make her sleep, but it is believed it had done more to her mind.

Can be any color. ((Sorry I'm not an artist so I've no means of creating an image for you of an Octequigon)) Just do your best.): Blue/Purple with lightening on her wings.

NPC Name: Alinar

NPC Race: Elven

NPC Age: 17, nearly 18 years old.

NPC Gender: Male

NPC Description: Raven black hair, amethyst eyes. Muscular and athletic body. Aside from his body size/type he looks exactly like his sister A'loiene.

NPC Skills/Abilities (If any): He has no magical abilities, but is very skilled in weapons. His best is with a sword, and is only average with a staff. Some tracking skills.

NPC Weaknesses: No magical abilities. He is average with a staff. But, his hand to hand combat, or the use of daggers look to be at a beginners level. Tracking skills are weak.

NPC Short Background (Is he or she evil and is in league with the Evil Sorcerer?): Alinar and A'loiene are twin Elven siblings. When they were babes in the cradle, his sister A'loiene was stolen from her cradle. As he grew older, he always felt something was missing within him, like a chunk of himself had been ripped away. Then he started having dreams at about the age of five, of a girl who looked just like him.
The dreams continued as he grew older, with the girl aging in the dream as he aged. At fifteen, he finally spoke to his parents about the dreams and the feeling of something missing. He was then informed of his sister who had been kidnapped as a babe. Upon speaking with mages, they believed his sister still lived which explained his dreams. At seventeen, he decided to take a tracking party with him and search for her.

NPC Name: A'matis

NPC Race: Shapeshifter

NPC Age: 18 years

NPC Gender: Female

NPC Description: Reddish-blond hair, icy blue eyes. Athletic body.

NPC Skills/Abilities (If any): Shifter. Main animal she uses to shift into is a Vulnyx. Rapid Healing.

NPC Weaknesses: She is only able to stay in her animal form for three hours at best. And is weakened once back in her humanoid form for about ten minutes. Able to heal self, but not others.

NPC Short Background (Is he or she evil and is in league with the Evil Sorcerer?): A'matis is the daughter of J'kar and D'nira (both deceased from an Night-Glyder attack. There had been chaos, and neither were able to get to a Healer quick enough. Despite their bodies being able to heal, the poison still coursed through their veins.) She was raised alongside A'loiene, as if they were sisters of the blood. All knew A'loene was of Elven blood, but to travel to Arithemar would take too long, and then even longer to search the large home of elves for A'loiene's family, especially when no one had any clues where to start within the large city. They assumed someone would come looking for her, but no one did. She was safe in Kelna Vale. They also had no idea who those two men were that kidnapped A'loiene, they also had no clue if they still searched for her. It was better she was safe in Kelna Vale, then traveling to Arithemar. A'matis and A'loiene trained together, played and laughed together, but recently A'loiene's mind has been unsettled and unstable. Those two men had done something to her to make her sleep, but it is believed it had done more to her mind.

Character Name: Arne (pronounced Orn, means Eagle in Norse)

Character Age: 23 years old

Character Description: Arne is a bit on the smaller side when it comes to height and body build. He stands about 5'1" on a good day and may weight 130 pounds if soaking wet. His hair is a dark brownish color and naturally straight, though it's hard to tell when he has it pulled back into a short ponytail all the time save for the two sprigs of bangs he has flop down into his face. Normally he keeps his hair back with a red ribbon though not many know why. Arne is in no way a fighter, he is somewhat fight but no where near enough to be doing any sort of physical training. His eyes are a hazel color.

Character Race: human

Character Skills/Abilities: Despite not having much going for him physically, Arne is skilled in the art of magic. He is very good with destruction spells, and some of spells that heal. Arne is a fast learner and catches on quickly to most things. He is also a great listener, and is willing to learn anything thrown his way. As a weapon he likes to use staves.

Character Weaknesses: Away from magic Arne has little to no survival instinct meaning he can't hunt, track, or really provide for himself. He also tends to over work himself a lot in order to impress the Grand Arch Mage, leaving his abilities weakened most of the time. He is clumsy, and a tad bit forgetful at the best of times. Arne can also manage to find any trap left about, normally with his face.

Character Locations: currently training in Arithemar

Character Occupation: accepted mage/ dragon rider

Character Short History: Being born to poor family, Arne never really got much love and compassion. He was a child of accident, father didn't want kids yet mother did, he didn't think one time would be enough to have a child. The whole of the pregnancy his mother suffered through illness after illness. Seeking help from the local priest was simply enough, but the lasting effects not even he could fix. Nine terrible months later, Arne was born. His mother lasted about a week after his birth before she died, writing a death sentence for her newborn. With no one around to take the child nor feed it his father fell into despair. Not only had he lost his wife but his son was also doomed to the same fate. Though after a few days a caravan rolled through town, and with it a woman and her husband whom had just lost their child. They were over joyed when the man offered them a child, begging them only that they come back and visit once he was older. Arne got a second chance at life, his father hope for his child, and a couple a loving child. Years later they found that Arne had an unusual connection with the magic arts thus they travled to Arithemar where he was taken under the wing of the Grand Arch Mage. Now he is a nearly a full mage, ready to take the Arch Mage position. Though his luck changed the day he found the stone while walking along the road. It was a caravan much like his 'parents', turned over upon the road after what looked like a battle. No one was spared. In one of the crates upon the wagon though was a chest, decorated with gold and silver scales, no doubt belonging to someone of royalty. No one else knows of the stone inside the chest, only him and he doesn't even know it's a dragon egg.

Can elves have unnatural hair colours or is it better to have more natural colours?
