I like to listen to vids and music on youtube when I'm on the comp and the sound from the battles interfere with what I'm listening to. Is there a way to mute the sound for battles? Is it something I can suggest as a possible option that can be put in to the game?

At the very lower right corner of the exploration window, there's a little button you can click to toggle the music on/off. :3
