I've recently gotten into the world of yarn (recently as in a year or so). For christmas I had knitted my aunt, sister, and two nieces scarves, as well as made yarn octopus' for the nieces.
I want to do more than just scarves though so I was wondering if anyone had any good beginner patterns, or tips on how to learn to do more than a garter stitch.

I'm in the process of making a patchwork blanket because my grandmother told me years and years ago knitted squares are one of the easiest things to do but there's an afghan that I used to own, originally knitted by my greatgrandma and given to me by my grandma, it was orange and yellow and white and had like a sunburst effect? I can't find a pattern for anything like that anywhere though so I think I might have to trial and error it.
