When you get a essence, go to the generator. Then click the button reading " No essence loaded. Click here to load a essence. Pick yours ( in colored text ) and make a design. clck " Generate " when done

An essence allows you to create a pet , similar to how you created your starter pet.
The difference is that you can only make the species of the essence you have, and the amount of traits you can create the pet with is determined by the type of essence. Since yours is a regular essence, you'll have 2 trait points. Enhanced and mystical essences give 4 trait points.
There will also be some colour swing when you create the pet, so you may need some dyes to fix that if it swings a lot.

i have a regular essence it will only let me use mythical essence

At the top of the pop up, you can change the essence type to regular.
