I've been trying to breed pets with carried traits in hopes of their offspring getting it, but so far it doesn't work. Plus, usually the visible traits are passed down instead. Really annoying!
Is there something wrong?

Breeding is working as intended as far as I know.
I'd suggest asking your question in the FAQ or Breeding Discussion Forum and someone can probably explain everything to you with the pets you're using.

Your pets may actually have the carries in their genetics, but you won't be able to see it until a pet has been genetically tested.
The testing kit is used to reveal any carried traits a pet has, as well as revealing any recessive traits when you look at a pet's image code. Without genetic testing, the pet's profile page will only show the traits that can be visibly seen on that pet at it's current stage of growth.
(To be more precise, untested hatchlings will only have the VISIBLE genes listed. Untested adolescents and adults will have the VISIBLE genes and mutations listed.)
