Chapter One: The Beginning

It was a beautiful day out, the sun was warm and felt nice on her fur, the cicadas were chirping their lovely song, until everyone heard a gunshot. Everything was still, Hope stood there, her eyes wide with worry. Only one thing could make that sound, ad only one creature had the power to make it. "Hunters!" Hope cried out as she ran towards her family's den. She swiftly jumped over a fallen tree, ducked beneath a low lying branch, then ran right through the stream that bordered the forest and the meadow. She hopped up onto a stump and looked around, her usually well groomed fur was now in tangled snarls and she was dripping with muddy water. "Mom! Dad! Ari?!" she called, Ari was her older brother, "Where are you!?!" She lay down crying, then, she saw a movement in the meadow... What was that? "Mom?" she whispered in a soft voice, "Mom, I wanna go home..." Instead of her mom a creature lunged out of the grass and tackled Hope, this creature was a tangle of red and a deep turquoise blue. It ripped her shoulder open to a point where blood was gushing out of it so fast that Hope began to feel dizzy...
Hope awoke to a crash and clatter of something falling to a hard ground. She opened her tired eyes and looked around. A female puffadore was running around in a hurry to get something. "Wha- whe- who?" Hope stuttered out. The female puffadore looked at her with cold orange eyes. "I am Ember, I took you in because it is injustice for the chief of the Ordinary Tribe to attack such a small little rat like you!" Ember said in a muffled voice because she was holding a bottle in her mouth. "What is that?" Hope asked cautiously. Ember rolled her eyes, "It is medicine so you don't die miss rat." Hope looked at her, "It's Hope. Not Miss Rat." Ember rolled her eyes again, "Well I am not leaving you to die out there, I shall take you under my wing," she said as she stretched. "We will start off tomorrow and try to find a new den, this one is too destroyed," Ember said in a voice that made it sound like she new everything. Hope sighed, this is going to be a long journey...she muttered to herself as she fell into another deep sleep.
