Not a matter of 'being given', merely that there are several different 'Base' clothing variations available from the start, see:

Again there's Base clothing and AP Unlockables (both shown in this image. All the white background squares are styles available at the start), located in the "Clothing" tab of the wardrobe. This is the only place they are- they are either already unlocked or obtainable via spending AP gained on-site. They cannot be bought or sold between players for gold.

Wardrobe items, located in the "Items" tab of the wardrobe are unlocked from items you can obtain through assorted methods (as mentioned in our last post).
Once obtained they are placed in the Inventory, and from there you can select them and hit "use item" to 'place' (unlock) the item in the Wardrobe.

"Again there's Base clothing and AP Unlockables (both shown in this image. All the white background squares are styles available at the start), located in the "Clothing" tab of the wardrobe."

The Base clothing you can obtain by "buying with diamonds or AP". As the picture shows, there are ones with white backgrounds and grey backgrounds. The white ones, you already have. The grey ones, no.

"This is the only place they are- they are either already unlocked or obtainable via spending AP gained on-site. They cannot be bought or sold between players for gold."

When you go to Wardrobe>Clothing, and for example see the same thing you see as in the picture, you are only able to buy the cloths(with grey backgrounds) with diamonds or AP. They are not things you can buy from other players.

The only time real money is involved in the Wardrobe is if you want to buy diamonds
which are also
- obtainable as prizes for contests
- buyable for gold (the main in-game currency) in the Currency Exchange

to buy items that are
- also available to be unlocked via AP (which only requires battling or the like to obtain)
- or for Wearables that are in the Avatar Shop (the ones marked in the Items section of the wardrobe with a diamond symbol. These make up only a fraction of the wardrobe items)
There is no requirement for 'real money to get started' at all.

I'm not even sure what you mean by 'Quest games'??
There's the plot, which requires zero real money.

there's quests, which give you in-game currency (gold, badges), for zero cost outside time

there's missions, which also give you stuff (gold, badges, equipment, healing items, essences) at zero cost (beyond using gold obtained via adventuring (not real money)- to get more mission slots (so you can do more missions at one time))

there's Jinxie's Jamboree, which is a game, which needs zero real money
???

Never mind that the Wardrobe is in no way related to your ability to progress the plot? It's purely an aesthetic thing?
It has zero impact on adventuring and sylesti

(Although (and I had completely forgotten) when Jinxie teaches you how to do quests you get a Newbie Adventurer's Satchel.
Opening it gives you a Newbie Adventurer's Outfit, which you can then place into the wardrobe from your inventory by selecting it and hitting 'Use Item'.
This is the first Wardrobe Item you get and is located on the first page of the Outfits section of the Wardrobe's Items tab)
