Hi all, after chatting lots on GC about writers block and lack of enthusiasm when it comes to getting back into story writing, I and a friend are going to do the 100 word challenge (which is in fact 101.. but who's counting :P )
In this challenge we are going to be picking words from a specific list and we are going to write short snippets or stories. And I then thought why not share this with everyone.

Your Challenge is to write a story (or if you prefer draw a picture) that is relevant to the word you have chosen. There is no limit to how many stories (drawings) you do.

There are no prizes for this game, its just more of an un-blocking place for writers (artists) to express themselves. There are no judges and I would hope that criticism stayed to a positive if non-existent form.

In fact lets have a rule that if you want your work critiqued you have to add at the bottom of your post in Red Bold Critique Welcome. "Ohh I like your story" are still fine cos there is no critique in that.

An example of the 101 words paragraph

1)Introduction
She followed eagerly as he walked through the street, holding on tight to his hand so as not to get lost in the crowd. When he had gotten her up that morning he had said dress nicely, as if the day would be more important than the last. He stopped at a cart and started talking to the owners. Pointing down at her, she hid shyly unsure of strangers. The cart owners laughed and handed him a drink.
"Today is going to be hot, so make sure you drink enough." he said smiling down at her.
As she began to sip the odd tasting beverage, there was a voice behind them, "Tobias!." Her guardian turned around and laughed hugging the dark man that had called his name.
"How are you? It's been so long, I thought you were living in Eslen now." the man said.
"Ah yes, we are just here on holiday, Caar has much nicer weather than Eslen," Tobias replied, all the while she hid behind him still sipping her drink.
"We?" the man looked down and saw her hiding behind Tobias, "Hello, I didn't see you there. My name is Jamen, what's your name."
"My... name.. is Niamh." she stuttered.
"It's nice to meet you Niamh," Jamen held out his hand waiting for her to take it in a shake.
"How do you like Caar?"

So there are a couple of ways you can do this:

1) Start from 1 and work you way down.

2) Play with a friend or two and pick random words for each to attempt.

3) randomly choose the word you want to work on yourself.

there are no time limits so no need for holding a post for later

If you want to do a new post for each word entry that's fine

50) BANG
Cian had been happily asleep till his mother had forced him awake. Groggily rubbing the muck out of his eyes he noticed she was rushing around the room grabbing bits of fabric and stuffing them into a bag.
"Mommy," he mumbled, but she hushed him before he could say any more. Pulling him out of bed she handed him his boots and the went into her bedroom. Still half asleep Cian put his boots on and trumped slowly into her room. His mother was in there going through more draws pulling more clothing out and shoving them into the bag. Cian wandered over to his sisters crib and caressed her forhead. She had red hair like their mother, and Cian loved to stroke it. Suddenly his mothers head jerked up from what she had been concentrating on. She rushed over to Cian and grabbed his hand away from his sister.
Pulling him towards the window she whispered to him "Now I want you to be a big boy and do mommy a favour."
She handed him the bag, and opened the window, a gush of wind blew in waking his sister who started crying. But he was not worried about his sister any more. The wind had brought with it a scent, a smell he had not noticed before, but one that stroke fear into his heart. His mother noticed his fear and dropped down to give him a big cuddle.
"You have to be really brave for me, they are coming so we have to leave."
She picked him up and sat him on the edge of the window, his legs dangling outside. He felt her move away from him, and heard her gently cooing his sister back to sleep.
"You will have to go on ahead Cian, I will not be able to move as fast with your sister, but you'll be brave for me wont you?" She looked up from the crib and smiled at Cian. He nodded and pushed off of the ledge, falling onto the soft grass just below him. The smell was much stronger outside than it had been indoors. His mother came to the window with his sister in her arms.
"Run to the woods and keep running, don't look back." Although he didn't know it, in that moment she was saying her last good bye to him.
'CRASH' Cian heard the house's door collapse as a large weight was thrust against it, and he started to run. His sister had started to cry again and as he ran he thought he heard his mothers voice as well, but she had said not to look back so he kept running. Just as he got to the edge of the woods he heard a sound he would come to fear more than that smell.

Light

In a world of blackness, a world with no brightness, no hope, only depression, people lived in dark. No light, no hope, no happiness. Blankness and blackness was the only thing known, although nobody liked it. Nobody could see anything, therefore the population was extremely low compared to ours today. Silence was common and deaths were often. One day, Lizzie Fayne was walking in her favorite greens- she assumed they were green, anyways- and saw a tiny glimmer. She walked closer to it, reaching her hand out. Tearing back fabric covering the brightness, there was a gigantic bang. It was big, bigger than what she assumed were tall skyscrapers. It was loud, almost defeaning. Suddenly she could see. A brilliant yellow glow filled her world- she could see farmers and crops and the baby blue sky. She could see.

Impulse

Watching his grandfathers eye track the soft movements of the butterfly with rapt fascination, Faine had to struggle against the urge to chuckle. The massive dragon might be older than Faine could ever imagine, but he was still fascinated by little things like pretty bugs. Letting their previous conversation drift away, he allowed his own gaze to trail after the fluttering monarch, watching it bob and dip in its sporadic flight path.

He soon found himself crouching down, pupils flaring wide at each random movement. His entire body tensed as his tail began to whip from side to side and his tongue shot out, tasting the air, waiting

The wind shifted, buffeting the butterfly back his way and he leapt nearly straight up, jaws snapping shut just short of his target. A playful growl vibrated up his throat as he leapt again and again, always careful to just barely miss his target so that the game wouldnt end.

His impulsive antics were rewarded by a rare, low chuff of amusement from his grandfather, which consequently blew the poor butterfly out of view.

Coming here was right for you. You shed your humanity at an impressive rate, for as short a time you have lived as one of us.

Though he knew the words were meant as a compliment, they made Faine fear his grandfather was right. He had pledged the old dragon 10 years of his life, to learn how to control the wild magic that now ran through his veins. How long had it been now, a year? Two? Time meant so little to the beings surrounding him, so it was hard to keep track. Lisas visits were few and far between now, it seemed, but he knew she hated coming down here alone anyways. Especially since the incident when one of the hatchlings had set her tail on fire. Shed complained that it would take months to grow the feathers back properly and, consequently, fly. Perhaps that was why she hadnt come in so long.

Shaking his head to try and clear out the clutter of his thoughts, he tried to focus on his original line of thinking. Oh, right! How long would it take before he forgot how to be anything but a dragon? Despite that being exactly what his grandfather wished for, he was sure, Faine was convinced that would make him no better than his father who had forgotten how to be a dragon. He needed to learn how to balance both of the worlds he now inhabited.
