A Brief Introduction

While the moon rests in the middle of the obsidian night sky, the pack sits upon a hill, howling to the bright white light that seems oblivious to the disaster that's overtaken the world. Together they harmonize, their tones molding together into a depressing song wishing the curse to be lifted, while watching Earth crumble...

Humans, an extremely intelligent species that dominate planet earth, royally screw up when they attempt to make nuclear power plants bigger and better than before. When they try to contain the situation, they realize too late that this issue is far to large for them to handle, no matter how many people come together to try to redeem their mistakes. When the power plants explode, leaking poison into the world, spreading an unidentifiable plague that wreaks havoc onto Earth, there's no hope for any of the last living species. With all of the humans undead, there isn't a way to cure the uncontrollable disease that seems to be able to quickly and effectively spread, and adapt extremely well to anything it faces, making it nearly impossible to avoid the unholy that roam the lands, seeking everything's blood. They prey on everything that moves.
No one is safe here.
Not even the unholy themselves...

This story revolves around a wolf named Leah and her pack as they are rudely introduced to the new plague and forced out of their comfortable home to face the new world that is now a battlefield. They travel the world, seeking others to join up with in this mess that they call home sweet home. Every day is a struggle to survive, and you can no longer trust just anyone. For not everyone is as sane and trustworthy as they used to be.

Hello, everyone who is reading this story! I am proud to be continuing this story from my Wattpad account, as I don't use that website/app as much as I do this one. I'm hoping you enjoy the continuation of this story, and if you do, please leave a response telling me that you'd like to hear more. I don't necessarily have a posting schedule, but if I haven't made a post in a while, feel free to send me a message and tell me to get my butt moving on the story. Please note that I am busy during the week days because of school, I'm a Junior or in 11th grade and am very busy with college stuff, the ACT's and whatnot. I'm a very forgetful person and tend to let things like this slip from my mind, so please give me a holler if I have not posted in a while(That means that I haven't posted in like two weeks or more.) I'll be trying my best to post a new chapter every weekend or every other weekend for you. Anyhow, enjoy this first chapter that I should be posting in a little while! I'll be working on the second chapter today as well so that should be up shortly after the first. ^-^

The Start of Everything

My rump was in the air, forepaws planted firmly in the deep snow and I readied to attack my opponent. I shook my tail back and forth, my entire backside following its movement, tempting him forward.
"Are ya scared or somethin, bro?" I'd inquire, lifting a brow in a teasing manner.
"Hah! You wish," he'd retort as his muscular body lurched forward, shoulders rolling under the thick fur of his embodiment as he made his way quickly to me.
His jaw unhinged, latching his pearly ivories onto the right side of my neck while pulling his own mass to the floor, twisting his head to pull me over with him.
As I fell, he scrambled to his paws, pinning me underneath of his framework with ease while gripping my nape firmly in his maw as I was beginning to get back up.
"Not so fast there are ya, sis?" He joked through a mouthful of my fur.
I could feel the corners of his lips pulling back in a smile at my failure... I had one coming for him though.
With my adrenaline still pumping in my veins like white hot fire, I'd lift myself up, his paws leaving the terrain as I did so, hoping to get him off me and to land in the deep blanket of snow beside me. While he was laying on my back, his balance faltered, causing him to fall to the floor. Once he was down, I stepped on his neck, though not enough to choke him, and grinned in triumph.
"How's that for not so fast, you flea?" I snorted at him, finally letting go and backing up, allowing him to stand.
"Aye, I underestimated your skills, my wonderful sister." He parted his front legs and lowered his head in a bow, a signal of defeat, while lifting his lips to expose his teeth in a lopsided grin.
"Uh huh. And it's wonderful amazing she's-better-than-me-at-everything sister to you," I teased, turning to trot away from him while holding my tail and head high. I'd turn back to look at him, flashing my own loopy grin at him before I'd prance back to the rest of the group to see if I could help out with anything.
I padded up to an elder named Lilian and plopped down on my rump next to her.
"Oh, hello there, Leah dear. Done with your spar with your brother I see?" She gave me a smile, one that made you feel warm and giddy inside.
"Ahh, yes. Finnic submitted first, and we had barely even begun. I guess that means I'm getting better."
"Oh, yes! Better each day, dear. I remember when you couldn't even get a bite on him. Now you win almost every spar you get yourself into," she commented, the sun's reflection glinting off her eye.
"Uh huh!" I puffed my chest proudly before my tongue would peek out from my charcoal lips to groom her while using my incisors to remove any matted fur in her thick coat. "Any idea where Keitan is, Lilian?"
"Keitan? Mmm, he went out with Tjernobog and Chandler for a quick patrol. The pack up in the mountains has been getting closer each day and they've been frequently remarking the borders. Should be back any time, though, doll."
"Thank you, Lil. I'm going to go and check up on Erson and the pups," I yipped, staring at the young adolescent female with two pups crawling over her, "she looks as if she needs some help."
"Who wouldn't need help with those two Devils around."
I heard her chuckle as I stood and walked towards the black and brown female, easing back down on my haunches as I was about two paw steps away.
"Need a hand?"
"Boy, do I! These little rascals have been chewing on me like a chew toy all day! I tried giving them a stick and a bone to chew instead, but I guess it's more fun to try to eat me instead..." A low growl rumbled from her vocals as one of the youngsters climbed onto her back and up her neck to chew her ear.
I bit back a laugh at the annoyed expression plastered to her features while watching the pups play. I picked one up by the scruff and flipped him on his belly, using my smaller teeth to nibble his stomach and tickle him. His squeals of joy only egged me on, though the amused squeals were soon replaced by screams of terror as the patrol burst through camp.
Quickly, I gave the pup to Erson, signaling with my eyes to stay put until she was given further instructions. When I averted my attention back to the canids, I could see a large distorted figure latch onto Chandler and drag him down while the others sped away, unaware of what was happening until Chandler screeched in agony.
The breaking of bones echoed around the camp clearing, freezing everyone in their places.
I was the second to move, the first being Keitan as he lurched into action to run and save the Beta male from the grasp of the unholy thing.
I couldn't run any faster than I was, no matter how hard I tried. When I neared, my haunches leaned down in a ready position to jump onto it and bite down. I flung myself in the air and onto the fleshy creature hunched over Chandler. Jowls would lift in an upward motion, the skin on the bridge of my nose folding and bringing my lips back into a menacing snarl before I allowed my canines to sink into the beast's mangled flesh.
An unrecognizable shriek came out of the thing, and while it continued its agonizing song, I could feel it's body vibrating with the force of the howl that it released.
With the help of four wolves, including myself, we were able to damage the creature enough so that it ran back off into the woods from where it came from, leaving the body of Chandler behind.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's going to be alright, Chandler. Okay? We've got you," Keitan tried his best to be reassuring, though he was at risk of losing his beta.
I carefully inspected his wounds, seeing if I could treat them or not. Seeing as I might be able to, I asked: "Can you walk at all?"
"Erm, maybe. You guys might have to help me up."
He stumbled to his feet, though the majority of him standing were others that were holding him up. Blood began to drip from his wounds, soaking the soft snow beneath his paws.
"I don't think I can walk. I'm pretty sure my back legs are broken. That damn thing was pretty heavy," he chuckled lightly, though coughed a bit from the exertion of energy.
"Alright. Set him down... Easy... Easy..." I instructed for them to get me some supplies from camp as I waited by the fallen pack member to keep him company.
"Well, I'm assuming you'll be wanting poppy seeds for the pain, yes?" I joked, trying to keep the conversation light while my nose worked at the same time to nudge a bit of snow onto his swollen hips.
"Yes please. I don't particularly enjoy the feeling of broken bones and a few cuts, Leah," he snickered, laughing lightly as to not rise up another coughing fit.
When the others returned, I went straight to work on his broken hind legs, melting snow with my breath and mixing it with sand to create the perfect cement like concoction.
"This may hurt a little. You might want to take those seeds I set in front of you now. I'm going to have to try to realign your bones before I put this paste on you so that they heal correctly,"
"Aye."
For the time being as I waited for the poppy seeds to kick in, I went to work on his open cuts, using some wet moss to clean them off, then going in with agrimony to disinfect them and applying bilberry to reduce the chances of bleeding or bruising later. Lastly, I covered the small wounds with some leaves, leaving them to heal on their own.
"Now for the nasty part."
I put a paw on the awkwardly bent area of his legs, and pushed down, hearing a loud crack as the broken bone went back down and no longer protruded from his thigh. My large saucers rotated in his direction as he released a groan of agony.
"Sorry. One more time. You're doing really good," I soothed, my attention still focused on the break to see where the bones needed shifted.
Once I managed to get the one in line, I smeared a coat of the paste into his leg before wrapping it up in leaves and working on the next one.
After finishing my job, I released a sigh and looked down at him.
"We're finally done. Your legs should heal properly in the next few moons and your cuts will heal in the next few sun rises. Don't get yourself in any water though. I don't want the mixture on your legs coming off. That's the only thing holding your bones together. Just rest for a while and bark at me if you need anymore seeds, hon."
I signaled for two of the brutes to move him to a dryer area where he could lay temporarily until I fixed him a mat of leaves to lie on.
I padded over to one of my favorite places to lay, which was on top of a small mound, a little to the north of the clearing.
Once I reached it, I lay down on the cold terrain, the soft snow melting and seeping through my thick coat. I tried to allow my mind to wander, but it kept playing at the same question:
What was that unholy creature, and where did it come from?
