Can a Corrupted Qitari be captured, or is it going to be a waste of a perfectly good trap to try and get it?

This is not in the festival zone right? So I don't think you can catch it. Even if you try to, you won't be wasting a trap. Because if you try to catch pets/enemies that cannot be caught, the game will tell you that the trap won't work, and won't use the trap.

Not in the festival zone, no. And that's good to know, thanks! I ended up just defeating him and not trying to catch him but I'm glad I know now that it won't let me use traps for things that cannot be caught. Thank you for your help!

No problem.
Outside of the festival zone, pets that are not "wild" are boss pets, and can't be caught. The only named pets that can be aught are in the festival zone during festivals.
