The amount of trait points you can use in the generator depends on the type of essence you use. Regular essences gives 2 points. Enhanced and mythical essences gives 4 points, with mythical giving high colour accuracy.

Essences are items you find/buy, that enable you to make pets from the generator.
You can find essences from nurturing, battling, missions satchels, and Jinxie Jamboree. All of these are very rare drops though.
You can buy essences from the diamond shop, or from other players on the trade broker. Usually this can get expensive...
