C) I'll be very slow and very quiet, grab some food from my bag and offer it to the pup while looking around for the mother, ready in case she shows up. I'm doing everything to make sure I don't seem like a threat, crouching down and making myself look small and talking in a shushed calming voice to the pup, "It's okay. Here you go. I bet you're hungry," If I can earn the mothers trust as well, maybe I can get two new companions.

When i spot the mom, I hold out some food for her, speaking calmly and quietly, letting her come to me before petting her gently and checking her over for any injuries or illness. =)
