I bought a 2014 Winter Festival Avatar Item and opened it and nothing appeared in my inventory or wardrobe.

Unfortunately, it looks like that item has been dismembered.
I always try telling everyone not to wait to open/use things. As time goes on, we usually go through and 'clean up' older items for various reasons (re-used, moved things around, etc). This appears to have been one of them.

Oh, I didn't realized that. I actually bought it on the broker.

Thats weird cause i was able to open retired ones and ones from 2013 without trouble

It just depends per item. For some reason, the "2014 Winter Festival Avatar Item" has been stripped of its rewards. I have no idea why - it was probably done years ago for some reason.
