Question #1:

You need 14 Obsidian blocks and a flint and steel.

You place 4 Obsidian block horizontally and 5 vertically on each side. Then you click inside the portal with the flint and steel to activate it.

You need obsidian (10blocks I believe) and flint to 'light' the portal. :3

2 blocks on top, 2 on bottom, and 3 on each side.

The professor lost his pencil. He gives you an egg to trade with another creature for the pencil.
