Hey guys,
I started writing a story a few years ago of a fantasy world featuring two unlikely companions; an angel and a fairy. It fell by the wayside...but hopefully I can pick it up again. What I am posting here are edits of the original story until I catch up. Enjoy. Feel free to comment if you like it, and give constructive criticism.
Chapter One: An Unlikely Partnership
Part 1: Meeting in the Grove
There once was a fairy that was trapped inside the forest of Ianno Rethyl. This trickster, much like the other fairies, spent most his time trying to escape. It so happened that on this one particular day, he ran across a visiting angel through a chance encounter.
...
"Oh wise and glorious one," flattered the fairy in an oddly dissonant high pitched
voice, "whom has traveled very far to visit this forest so quiet; listen a moment to my plight." The angel stopped to fold the feathered wings that protruded from his head, and dimmed his aura of Light, revealing a timeless looking face. Brushing long silvery strands of hair from his softly glowing eyes, he answered with weary exasperation.
"Remove the glamour from your voice, for your magic has no effect upon me, little purple one. However, I feel a great urgency behind your words and thus will heed your plight. But do be wise when dealing with the holiest of the Guardians, for I am bound by the will of the Architect." The fairy flapped his delicate looking wings, and curling his colourful wasp-like tail, he circled the angel anxiously. His tone dropped an octave as the glamour vanished from his voice.
"I gotta get outta here." The fairy whispered frantically, his eyes darted from side to side warily. "This place is driving me nuts! Mind if I tag along wit' you, just for a little while?"
"Why do you not leave this place yourself, little purple one?" The angel mocked.
The fairy covered his mouth with a gangly looking claw and mumbled something incoherently.
"What was that?" Asked the angel.
"I'm stuck ere! Can't get out!" Yelled the fairy. "Geez, you don't need to rub it in me face, ya big pompous brute. I don't have any fancy wings made outta light!"
"As it ought to be!" Responded the angel haughtily. "The Architect created this world to be orderly, which means the fairies keep to their groves, the naga to the seas and the angels to the sky."
"Hey..." The fairy narrowed his big yellow eyes as he regarded the angel. "Then what're you doin' all the way down here?"
"I am investigating a... potential threat." Murmured the angel.
"What kinda threat?" Probed the fairy.
"It is a magical disturbance of some kind." Responded the angel evenly. "I believe it might be a form of Trickster magic, much like the sort your kind produces, but I am grasping at straws, here."
"Well, I know a lot about magic." The fairy gave off a wide grin, showing off a magnificent set of sharp looking teeth. "I could help you in your quest, y'know."
The Angel hesitated for a short moment. "It is against the will of the Architect to allow any fairy passage into the higher realms."
"Pfft." Snorted the fairy as he outstretched his arms. "Where is your Architect? Last I heard, hes not been seen for..." The fairy started counting on his claws. "Uh... five Big Cycles. Yeah! Come on. Besides, who even follows them rules, anymore?"
The angel paused for a very long moment, his face impassive as something heavy seemed to tick over inside his mind. Finally he said: "Very well. I will allow you to accompany me for a short while. But you must stay near me at all times. Who knows what damage you could cause to the world?"
"Aw, Yisss! Finally!" Whooped the fairy, ignoring the sombre tone of the angel as he did a mid-air somersault. "Oh, wait. Whats your name?"
"Raqhizal." Said the Angel. "And you are?"
"I'm only Saffrixa; the most talented, elegant, intelligent and most popular fairy ever to exist." Yelled Saffrixa loudly.
...
And so, the two unlikely companions set off on their quest, not knowing where it would lead them.
